Hi
This is my first post so please bear with me. If I have a Transurethral resection of Prostate, for enlarged prostate, how long after could radiotherapy treatment start for T3 bladder cancer ?
Hi Paddy D . Not had a prostate resection but in general there would be a wait of at least 6 weeks to give things time to heal before further treatment. I had chemo followed by chemoradiation for T3. If you could give us a bit of background on where you are with your bladder, we may be able to give you better information. Best wishes.
Thank you for your response . Basically I have an enlarged prostate and had an appointment for a TURP. The plan was to have the procedure at
the end of October. However, recently I had one episode of
visible haematuria and was sent for standard haematuria investigations with CT urogram and flexible cystoscopy. This revealed a solid looking mass in the right side of the bladder wall. The CT scan did not show any evidence of disease outside the bladder. I was then referred for a TURBT which I had 3 or 4 weeks ago , that showed a T3 invasive cancer, last week I had an appointment with the team and was offered the choice of surgical removal of the bladder & prostate or Radiotherapy, Cancer Therap (SACT) Capecitabine + Mitomycin+ Radiotherapy, I have chosen the radiotharapy route, hence my question re how long would I have to wait before going ahead with the radiotherapy treament if I chose to have the TURP done first. I hope that all makes sense
Regards
Hi Paddy D, no advice to offer (female G2 T1 cancer). But glad you've found our site and it won't be long before someone comes along with shared experience. Good luck with your treatment Hx
Hi Paddy. In many cases there is usually a follow up TURBT to double check results. After my second TURBT I waited about 2 months before starting a weekly regimen of chemotherapy. SACT is a term we do not see here often but usually a form of chemo prior to RT or RC. I then had another 2 months wait to start chemoradiation. This is a daily treatment and on weeks 1 and 4 I had a chemo pump fitted via a PICC line with further chemo which enhances the radiotherapy. Things need to heal after each part of the process and I should imagine this would be the case if you have the TURP. In my case, from diagnosis to final treatment took about 10 months. There is a lot of waiting. Many here have had bladder and prostate removed and would be able to help if you go that route. Best wishes.
