Ever the optimist, I am hoping to be fit enough to go on a pre(diagnosis) planned holiday to Asia.
My TURBT is on Wednesday and the flight out is scheduled three weeks later. Assuming the post-biopsy consult is a happy one - would I be fit enough to travel?
Thanks in advance any advice.
M
Hi MRit,I think it will be depend on what type of holiday you are having.I’m sure you will be fine but be aware that bladder haemorrhage can happen after a TURBT.I had one exactly 4 weeks later and ended up in casualty.I had moved some heavy boxes a couple of days before.I have never had one since but took care not to do any heavy lifting or too much bending/stretching for about 6 weeks post TURBT.Best wishes for your TURBT.Jane
Hello MRit, TBH I didn't really have any reactions to the TURBTs, all my trouble stemmed from the following treatment. So personally if you feel up for it I see no reason not to go. Of course it's worth considering what your doctor may advise. I wish you well.
Hi MRit . Always worth while checking with the medics. A lot could depend on the TURBT. It is around the 2-3 week mark when the scab starts to break up causing clots and in some cases, blood. I hope it works out for you. Best wishes
Sounds a terrific trip but I would suggest there are a few issues to consider. You might not get the results within the 3 weeks & then you'd have to wait until after the holiday - not necessarily a problem in terms of making decision/starting treatment, but would probably spoil the trip with uncertainty hanging over you. What about holiday insurance? Difficult to get reasonable cover for medical conditions when waiting for results & risky going without.
You should be fit enough to travel, but if you can cancel or postpone without any significant loss, might be the safer option.
Thank you all for your support and inputs. Certainly there's a lot to think about and I guess I should do the sensible thing and postpone (again). I retired early last Summer and we booked the three month Winter trip to Malaysia back then. We were due to leave on Jan 6. However - December 19 - Mum sadly died - Her funeral was January 10 - then I was diagnosed with BC the following day. Quite frankly , 2023 can go and get stuffed. We'll go next year when I'm fitter. This year is all about the fight. Two days to TURBT and onwards from there. xx
Hi MRit, very sorry to hear you've had such a heavy load to bear over the last couple of months. Condolences for the loss of your mum x It's good the TURBT is so soon. Obviously people's experiences vary but I've had 5 TURBTs and found them very straightforward, with no pain or problems. Hope it goes smoothly and your results are encouraging. Prepare yourself for about two weeks wait before you get the biopsy results. The stage and grade identified will be the key to how the Multi Disciplinary Team advise you proceed. Luckily there are many different treatment strategies for BC, and many of us still enjoying a healthy life years after our diagnosis. Best wishes H
Thank you H. Like the other messages yours is immensely encouraging. I've been extremely lucky so far in my life and that has reflected and driven an overly optimistic nature. I realise this can make bad news hit a little harder - but I have lovely people around me - not least the team on this Forum. Ultimately if I can play golf again in the Spring I'll count it as a win.
