I was wondering if any of you still have face to face appointments ? I’ve had a letter today saying the hospital are switching to a majority of phone appointments due to the pandemic.I have a date for the next phone appt in Feb 2023.I last had a face to face appt in 2020.I am disappointed.I waited 17 months for a useless 6 minute phone appt the other day.Jane x

  • Hi Jane

I’v been on phone appointments now since the pandemic and coming home from hospital on the day of the first lockdown.  I get 3 calls a year now lasting around 2 minutes-record was 1.5 minutes. I think I’ll get one further call this year. However, my surgeon is always keen to remind me that if I have any concerns, she will see me in her clinic, so I know I do have that option if I need it.

  • Thanks Sarah,I would have liked to speak to a urologist who knows me.I haven’t had 6 monthly support which I was meant to have.If my next scan is ok I’ll be moving onto annual scans.I hope the scan shows what is wrong with my lungs.Love Jane xx

  • My last one in September was face to face and bang on time. Frankly, I have no problems having phone consults, although they're often about an hour late. Saves all the travelling, which will increase when I finally move.

  • Hi Ian,I don’t mind phone appts but I was expecting to speak to one of my urologists as it was his name listed on the letter.Instead I spoke to someone who gave me no opportunity to tell him anything.I haven’t been well recently. The hospital have been helpful so I’m hoping the scan might provide some answers.Jane

  • Hi

Well that's not acceptable. Most of the phone calls I get  I'm usually prompted to say if there is anything else and to get back in touch if I've forgotten anything.

    No, it's really not on.

  • I’m envious. My specialist nurse is not unpleasant but she has never got to know me or shown an interest.I really could have done with her support during the recovery but she never called.I have had to phone her a couple of times but I didn’t feel comfortable about it.

  • Hi

I had two groups. One at UCH and the other at Barts. I usually contact them by e mail, but they do have designated phone lines. I always get a reply with 24 hours and usually less. Tea godsend.

  • I get on really well with the local urologist. We have always had a good rapport and I’ve known him 20 years.I’ve known his colleague for years too and get on fine with him and the rest of the team. It’s good that you can contact your teams if needed.I have e mailed mine in the past.Jane

  • I don’t like speaking with someone I don’t know-prefer my own surgeon, but the head of gynae phoned me last time and I’d only met him once before. I find it easier to talk to the person I actually have a rapport with. I hope your next scan is ok when it comes round.
