I have just got my results after my turbt 3 weeks ago. I’m a 40 year old male so it’s all been a real shock, after my operation I had the chemo straight in the bladder. I have been diagnosed with a Ta grade 2 tumour they said it’s all been removed and will now get follow up cameras every 3 months, I was under the impression for a grade 2 I would need chemo for 6 weeks (this was mentioned by the surgeon after the op) I mentioned this when getting results and was told it’s not required, clearly I’m pleased I don’t have to have it but also worried that it’s something I should have been offered. Any one got a better understanding then me that can clarify this?
Hi Monty81 and welcome to the group. It sounds as though your BC was caught early and treated which is good. NICE guidelines state that very early and low risk should be followed up with regular cystoscopies. Intermediate risk should be offered a course of BCG. I think there is a fine line between grades. It sounds as though your doctor thinks no treatment is required, but it may be an idea to query it or ask for a second opinion to put your mind at rest. Best wishes.
Hi Monty81, I had T1 Grade 2 which was described to me as high grade. T1 means the cancer had grown deeper into the bladder wall than yours, so wasn’t found so quickly. I was offered BCG and completed a full 27 dose course over 3 years. I think in your position I would also query with my clinical nurse specialist and ask why they didn’t offer BCG. It may well be that they are convinced yours is a low risk, but it doesn’t hurt to ask. Best wishes H.
Hi Monty81 - I had Grade 2 TA but it was high grade 2 and I had 2 tumours. I was told they split grade 2 into low grade 2 and high grade 2. I had a course of mitomycin (once a week for 6 weeks and then monthly for 6 months). I’ve just had a recurrence but this time low grade 2 so waiting to hear what they suggest next.
