Hi everyone,

I'd like some advice, or shared experiences. I will be moving home over the next few months to Suffolk. I currently live in London where I've been treated by Barts and UCH. I'm down to two check ups a year and things have been fine. I am a bit concerned about changing doctors and getting the crossover timed, so I don't miss out on my prescription. I opted for an RC and stoma, so I'm a little concerned about running out of supplies. Any suggestions, sharing experiences would be very helpful.

  • Hi Ian. No help sorry. Hopefully someone will have an answer for you. The move sounds interesting though. Never been to that part of the country, but it sounds nice. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hi IanW, I haven't moved during my cancer treatment however because I'd been previously treated very well at Barts and UCH for other things, I was worried that a small rural district hospital might not match up to those big teaching hospitals. But the system has been brilliant, screenings well organised and treatment following NICE guidelines every step of the way. Do you have a Clinical Nurse specialist? Mine would definitely help smooth changes between consultants and also prescription supplies. Good luck with the move to lovely Suffolk. I spent many happy holidays at Walberswick in the 80s. Hx

  • Thanks Blush

  • Hi Ian,I will have to think about this in the next few months.I don’t know where I will be moving yet though.Best wishes Jane

  • Hi H,It’s good to know you had a smooth transition between hospitals.I may end up living nearer the local hospital. As a non driver I need to be able to walk or catch a bus to appointments.Jane x

  • Hi Jane, I do have to drive myself to the hospital although I have been lucky that friends and my daughter have stepped in over past few years when I’ve been post-aesthetic. I have heard there are hospital car schemes which can be arranged. Most important thing is to live somewhere which makes your heart sing. xxx

  • Hi H,The places that make my heart sing are all well more than I will be able to afford.I’ll be happy if I can find a smaller Victorian or Edwardian house with a garden.I shall miss this house so much.I’ve been here 24 years, the longest I have ever lived anywhere.Xx

  • Lovely area, bit of a change from London but not so rural as to worry about care! How do you get supplies now? I am in nearby Cambridgeshire, have neo & have urinary catheters via Charter Healthcare. Deliveries should be no problem, it will be just finding a GP that might be an issue - not enough of them for the number of patients. I'm sure Barts & UCH can effect a smooth handover to a local hospital. Addenbrookes in Cambridge is  a major centre for BC, but depending where you will be in Suffolk, you might be better for follow up at West Suffolk or Ipswich.

  • Hi

Get my supplies from Fittleworths, no problems. My main concern is a GP.
