Hi, just had my Turbt on Tuesday was first in 8.30 on the Tuesday and solid blood was still coming through catheter right upto them putting the chemo drug in. They had tried 6 litres of flush but everytime they clamped red was back.
They removed the catheter around 6pm after chemo was drained and told to pee myself but my pee was bright blood they decided to let me go home anyway. I was in tremendous pain and peeing every 10 minutes then around 4am a huge clot came away and the relief was nearly immediate.
That day I have just sat around but everytime I go for a wee now it's black looking. Also feels like there's something stopping the flow (maybe more clots) is this normal? As the ward was closing when I was discharged I wasn't given any chat of what to expect. Any advice helpful.
Hi K.B. sorry to hear what a miserable time you've had following your TURBT. Everyone's post-TURBT experience seems to be different but it is not unusual to have some bleeding. Have you been allocated a Clinical Nurse Specialist? These brilliant specialist nurses are incredibly knowledgeable and mine is available by telephone during the working day. But if this was your first TURBT and prior to a full biopsy diagnosis meeting (where a consultant confirms bladder cancer and informs you about a grade and stage?) then you may not have been introduced to yours yet. It's totally reasonable to want reassurance about the concerns you describe, so if you have no telephone contact in the Urology department I would be inclined to speak to your GP. Hoping things ease soon. Best wishes H
Hi K.B. Some light and occasional bleeding is common after TURBT, but heavy and persistent needs to be reported to the medics as H says. Surprised they removed the catheter if still showing signs of blood. In the meantime, you need to be drinking lots of water to flush the debris out and help prevent blockages. I hope all goes well. Best wishes.
Hi K.B,Sorry to hear you are suffering after your TURBT.It sounds like you need some medical advice. Some bleeding is to be expected but heavy bleeding and obstructions need to be checked out.I hope you feel more comfortable soon.Let us know how you get on.Best wishes Jane
Definitely second Rily's advice to drink lots of water or squash. Flushing the system through is crucial after treatments and TURBTs. In fact since I got my diagnosis I make it my top priority drink 2 litres every day. Lemon barley as recommended by another of our merry group of site users, is my favourite. H x
Hi K.B,
I had a similar problem , clots difficult to pass specially after removing the catheter, my doctor prescribed a drug that relaxed the prostate and allowed a more easy stream without too much pain involved, maybe worth mentioning to your doc, its a very common medicine which you might be already be taking. I never had prostate trouble before but with the Turbt caused my problem re stream linked with pain and passing clots.
