Hello all I was diagnosed with cis bladder cancer in December 2020 ..I had turbt and have my 15th bcg treatment next Wednesday..they say this will be my last but I will be having cystoscopys on a regular basis so far all has thankfully been clear ..these past few bcg treatments have been so painful at the end of me passing urine ..really bad spasms like electric shock ..has anyone else had this ..best wishes Tina x

  • Hello Tina, oh yes. My last BCG instillation was end of September last year. To this day I still suffer from the after effects of the treatment. Its left my bladder inflamed, it disturbs my every day life. I still have pain and discomfort and only today I had spasms which I haven't had in awhile. It does vary I do get better days, they put it down to chemical cystitis. It disturbs my sleep patterns, I do take pain killers but they don't seem work that well. I'm always told that it will eventually clear, which to be fair, it did last year before I had my final two treatments which kicked it off again. I remain ever hopeful. Of course everyone is different so my path may be totally different to yours we all react differently.

    Take care Chris

  • Thanks for your reply .. I suppose putting any chemical into our bodies isn't natural but we can only follow what the doctors are telling us .. I seemed to cope OK with the first 12 treatments  but this last 3 have been bad .. it's a pain I really can't describe properly.. I spoke to a 90 year old man in the clinic yesterday he was having bcg but told me he had it 20 years ago and only now he had a reoccurrence....this made me feel quite optimistic let's hope we can have a good result ....take care Tina

  • Hi Tina, I've been following your progress as my husband has been on BCG treatment for a similar time. He had a long gap between no 9 and the last 3. After 11 treatments the nurse said his bladder was too inflamed to have no 12 which was a great relief to him as he was going to ask to leave it. Up every two hours through the night but last night he only had to get up once so we hope things are settling down.

He was initially diagnosed with T2 Hg and Cis in Jan 2018.He had radiotherapy and was told if it came back he would have to have an RC. Cis returned in Jan 2021 and they said he could have BCG which was a great relief. All his cystoscopies last year were queried because of radiation damage but eventually were benign.

I am filled with awe about how you all deal with this. Hopefully you will find things settle down as time goes on. We're hoping he will now move to 3 monthly checks with no further BCG treatments. As always we have to take each month at a time  and enjoy the moment while scans are clear. Maureen

  • Hi Maureen nice to hear from you Blush I also like to follow others who are going through this journey too .. I hope your husband will continue to have clear cystoscopys ..I should have one around end of July....when I started the bcg treatment I was told I would probably have 27 treatments but have now been told it will be 15 so my last one is next Wednesday June 8th ..I hope all will keep clear ..this is some I never thought would happen ..I had a streak of blood and Dr insisted I have a cystoscopy...I wasn't going to bother to go but my husband said you might as well get it checked out so off I went not a worry in the world as I felt good ...I had such a shock ..I had just turned 65 and I thought I'm going to die .. I have learnt to accept things so much more now and this group and the Facebook group have been so helpful and supportive xx I hope your husband will be OK.. radiotherapy was never mentioned to me only bcg treatment and if that didn't work he'd have to look into other treatment xx take care sorry to go on so much love Tina x
