Hi. I’m new to this forum and to bladder cancer. Let me start my rocky road. I had a TURBT op at the end of October and my results were positive low grade 1 or 2 cancer. Had the chemical left in for the hour after the op. Released from hospital that night. One of the worst nights of my life. Very painful. Took me a couple of weeks. Shortly after my op I got abdominal pains and it hasn’t stopped since  now on 8 weeks. I also developed testicular pains to top it off. I have tried many things by my dr but still in constant abdominal pains. Please if there is anything I can do or is there anyone with the same issues have a successful story please share with me. I’m at my wits end. I’ve always been really active in sports and have been healthy most of my life but this has knocked me for six.
ps I took codine for 3 or 4 days but soon stopped when I got constipation. I will never use it again

Please if someone help me. I will be eternally grateful

  • Hi and welcome to the group. Most people recover after a couple of weeks, so sorry to hear you are still suffering effects. Have you had any follow up from urology with results? Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hi rily yes but only to say it was a low grade cancer and it was all removed. My GP is trying to contact my surgeon to figure out this constipation issues.

  • Hi JP70,I’m sorry to hear you are having abdominal pains.Have you tried sugar free chewing gum ? This helps to stimulate sluggish bowels. My mother used to find prune juice helpful for constipation. What have you tried already ? I hope you find some help and support here.Best wishes Jane xx

  • Hi . We love our GPs, but they are never the best at dealing with bladder cancer. Hopefully someone will be along with experience of your problems, but in the meantime, you may like to post in the Ask a Nurse section where you should get expert advice. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hi JP70, personally I swear by eating beetroot to make things flow. Your constipation is most likely caused by the codein....ghastly stuff, or possibly by the anaesthetics used in TURBT. I have also experienced post-operative constipation and it is awful.  Recently I have been taking Optibac which is a mix of friendly bacteria and fibre which I have found definitely helps my gut health. Hope you feel better soon.

  • Hi Jane. Now trying the SF chewing gum. Have used prune juice too. Everything I do to clear it does a bit of help but then it comes back. I’ll have a new eating lifestyle change no matter what. Ty

  • Hi,I’d never heard about the chewing gum until I was told to bring some in when I had my bladder removed. After the surgery the bowel likes to go to sleep so the gum is supposed to help to stimulate it.Codeine and morphine are terrible for causing constipation.I hope you feel better soon.Jane

  • since i had tumour's removed in bladder nov 22 last month ...so not that long ago ... i have had to go back to work but had i have had constipation and ongoing back and lower stomach pains. i have used dulca ease they have helped loosen up which has been some relief but still have pain passing urine.

  • I have and still do have pains in my colon, a feeling of burning. Surgeon says it's the bladder, same nerve goes to the brain and fools you into thinking it's the colon. It can wreak havoc on your bowels, especially considering your mind has something to do with bowel movements. If you're constipated, in my opinion, it could mean your nerves down there don't want anything to move, doesn't want it to be irritated. Solution? pain meds, stool softeners, azo, fiber, and a lot of patience. Surely as your bladder heals from a turbt, it will get better.
