Hello everyone,

OK new to the group so be kind. Following blood in my pee and numerous tests I have been diagnosed with a tumour in the bladder.

I had some good news in that I could possibly have the operation TURBT on Monday 8th but I would need to do a COVID test before the operation.

Unfortunately I had COVID last month but was released from isolation on the 21st October. Apparently I am unable to take further tests for 90 days and am being told that this will mean my operation being cancelled. Its all pretty stressful as I had the camera investion last week!

Does anyone else have the same issue?

Byron

  • Hello Byron62, sorry to hear your TURBT is being delayed. How frustrating to have to wait so long for another test. I don't really understand why but I'm guessing this is feedback from your testing centre? In general I don't think a short delay in BC treatment matters too much. I have heard Urology doctors say not to worry about short delays but 90 days is 3 months which could feel really stressful, so I think you should check this info out with someone in your Urology team. Do you have a Clinical Nurse Specialist? Mine is like wonder woman and can smooth through most system hiccups. Her word is law at my hospital. Fingers crossed you can get some help with this, we all understand how nerve racking it is waiting for a TURBT. x

  • Hi . Sorry to hear you have had a bc diagnosis. Not heard of anyone having to wait so long for a further covid test. It may be protocol for your hospital. Obviously, the sooner you get your TURBT the better. As H says, try and contact the urology dept. for advice. Lots of experience here to answer any questions you may have regarding treatment. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Yes it's a bit wierd. NHS rules state that I cannot have a PCR test for 90 days post covid as the results will likely show positive as the virus markers will be present.

The person I spoke to today said that a negative PCR would be required to have the TURBT. So I will track my Nurse down and see what happens. It's really worrying if I have to wait 90 days!

  • Hi Byron62, good advice to see your CNS, hopefully you can get it done sooner. Good luck

  • What did nurse say? Never heard of this before?

  • Hi the nurse didn't say much told me to ring the urologists secretary. I just go to answer phone.  I received a letter today stating that the tumour is 3 cm possibly non invasive. They suggested that they would book an urgent appointment which was then cancelled due to me having previously tested positive for COVID on the 13th October

  • Mine is HG non invasive. Between the 1st and 2nd TURBT it has started growing again. I am having removal on 2nd December. I have always found the Secretary's here very helpful. Keep trying to get hold of her.

  • Sorry to hear that I hope things go well for you. It all started well .. would have had the op yesterday. COVID long gone but would probably fail a PCR and I guess it will be 90 days before I will even be considered. When you receive a letter today stating this case should be treated as urgent kind of at a loss as to what else to do.

Feel a bit low that there appears to be zero support and that leads you to worry, especially as I am self employed.

  • It's so strange. My granddaughter had Covid at the end of August and had a negative test at the beginning of October to go on holiday. I would definitely query the 90 days.

  • I know it's totally wierd. It is apparently NHS policy. I am testing lateral flow negative so really don't want to be hanging around.
