My husband as I've said below in reply to cojee.  Has had a neobladder after having T3 muscle invasive bladder 2 weeks ago, so much worse than I imagined,  as he came out with a stomah as one of his kidney urethra is sticky. Obviously his recovery will be longer, as after surgery 6 weeks later they will reconfigure?? Has anyone else had this & any info. He had a neo-nladder done x

  • Hi KimDav,I’m a bit confused about the stoma and the kidneys.I had stents into the kidneys and they came out after a couple of weeks though some people have them in longer.I had a cystectomy with an ileal conduit rather than a neo bladder so I have a stoma. How is your husband feeling ? Cystectomy is major surgery so it does take time to recover and it’s not long since your husbands surgery.I was also a T3 muscie invasive.I expect the people here who had neo bladder will be along to share their experiences.Love Jane xx

  • I'm confused too, did he have a neobladder, or did they have to do stoma & bag instead? Unfortunately stoma cannot be changed into neobladder (though neo can be converted to stoma). Or do you mean he has stents? I had neo & stents kept in for 6 weeks to avoid scarring. In the meantime, neo was activated about 2 weeks post op & training started. Stent removal was very straightforward, but kept in overnight in case of infection.

Everyone underestimates how weak & tired you are post RC. Recovery will be slow, you need to just go at the pace your body dictates. Encourage walking a little more each day (even if a slow shuffle), eating little & often & plenty of fluids & rest. Best wishes.
