Hello Maci and welcome to the group. Sorry to hear you are concerned about catching Covid prior to your op. I see from your previous posts in the experts section, you are due to have bladder removal. In case you haven't seen the expert responses, you can read them HERE and HERE . Once you get a date for your op, it takes away a bit of the anxiety of the waiting as you have something positive to focus on. In the meantime, try and keep yourself occupied and try some exercise to get you as fit as possible for the op. Any questions about the op itself, thee should always be someone here with answers. Best wishes.
Hi Maci, my dad had his R C last week and I know he was nervous and anxious on the build up to it. My dad went to ICU post op as I believe is quite normal,he was then moved into his own room on ICU due to risk of infection,he stayed in this room until discharged 7 days later due to bed shortages in the rest of the hospital! We were quite happy he stayed here, as the care he received was amazing and such a clean place! Although ICU sounds a scary place, he was the only one here for the whole week!
Through his macmillian nurse, he spoke with somebody before the op who had also had it done. He found this really helpful as he was a little more prepared for how things would be in the immediate days after the operation.
My dad has also been offered counselling pre and post op, I do hope you too have been offered this.
I believe there are a number of people on this site who have had RC and I know for myself, their stories, support and reassurance has helped me tremendously, no question is ever too silly!
I wish you all the very best in getting rid of this horrible disease. X
Hi Maci
I would like to reassure you about life after RC. It is good.
I was nervous too before my op but I am so grateful now because I am alive and kicking. I chose bladder removal because I did not want invasive tests. I have a twice-yearly scan and so far so good.
Basil my stoma, is my best friend
I went into ICU but that is all part of it and nothing to worry about.
I wish you all the best and this lovely forum is always here for you
Love Inanna x
