Hi all, got date for surgery 6th August. Removal of bladder and kidney. Feeling a bit emotional and anxious
Hi . Good to know you have a firm date, although it must be a worrying time. Lots of experience here who will be able to answer any questions or worries you may have pre op or post op. I'm sure all will go well for you and give you a heathy future. Best wishes.
Hi, you could distract yourself a bit by tackling practical preparations perhaps? Everyone here recommends stocking your freezer/cupboards with easy food and snacks that you can live on when you get home, I'm sure they will be along with details of what suits. If you search 'vacuum packed meals delivered to your door uk' you will find some microwave meals that don't need freezer space. We get an organic veg box too, you may find you can get milk, butter, eggs and cheese along with it, we do.
If I am having any surgery [always check with your pharmacist] I would expect to take sustained release Vitamin C to help with healing and fighting off any germs. I always take a quality multivitamin anyway, and it should have any kind of zinc but NOT zinc oxide as it's zinc ingredient. [Ones that do are cheap and a con as it is not well absorbed by the gut, this throws everything else out of balance]. If you do get an infection, odour controlled high dose garlic tablets are a natural anti-viral and anti-bacterial which I find very effective.
best wishes,
Denby
Hi KatyG, we all totally understand your feelings. Pre-op is a really scary time. Denby's advice is spot on, focus on preparing as a distraction. You might like to choose a couple of really good novels to escape into, and line up some gripping box-sets. Before my original TURBT I bought myself a couple of new nightdresses and comfy track suit bottoms. I haven't gone for a cystectomy but my BCG treatment has meant 3 and a half years of frequent hospital attendance and many reoccurences. It is on-going. Those who do have the surgery face a long period of recovery but in general afterwards they seem to be free to live their lives away from treatment. Many on here have recovered extremely well and have no regrets. Sending you love and best wishes. x
Hi Katy,Good to hear you have a surgery date. Before my op I tried to catch up on some chores I knew I wouldn’t be able to do post op.This helped calm my nerves and was a useful distraction. My sister took some time off work to help me when I came home.I could manage alone after a few days.I was on a low fibre diet to begin with and ate little but often. It’s great that you have a supportive family.Love Jane
Hello Katy
This is a daunting time but once I was checked in at the hospital I knew I was on the right path.
Recovery takes time so be kind to yourself. Doing the most easy chores is difficult so lay back, go with the flow and let your body work it's magic
Love Inanna x
