Salvage Cystectomy or Botox?

Hi all, I hope everyone is as good as they can be.

You may recall I posted a while ago stating that my bladder is basically hopeless as I'm only capable of holding around 50ML of urine. Well, since then, it's got worse, and I'm lucky if I can hold 25-30ml now. This is all because of a severe dose of radiation cystitis, and subsequent bladder shrinkage.

I had a consultation with my urologist about a salvage cystectomy. It's exactly the same as radical cystectomy, but unlike RC, it's not a first line treatment - more last resort. He's trying me on some new meds to stop the urination urge, but 5 weeks on, I'm feeling little to no effect.

I have an appointment with him next Wednesday, whereby I have to make a final decision - but, he put a fly in the ointment on my last appointment by saying that I'm an ideal candidate for Botox in the bladder - the same Botox that's used for facelifts.

I know it's a long shot, but anyone here had it? If so, did it work?

I may even post this on the prostate cancer forum too...

    Hi Nick

Sorry to see that you are having difficulties and that you get your botox soon

I didn’t know it was possible to fix this problem with a Botox shot. I hope you are doing well now. one of my friends has a similar problem now, and I will suggest this option to him. I don’t know why his doctor didn’t do that.
It looks like it is an easier solution because surgery is always challenging for your organism, and there can be some consequences. I will suggest my friend go to drandrewfrankel.com and ask whether they do such shots. I got my facelift surgery there, and it was a good experience. Now I look 10 younger and like myself much more.

  • Hi Nick, sure I've read about bladder botox, in USA? somewhere on t'web. Know you'll be suitably cautious about what's out there.
