Had the bladder tumour removed yesterday , told two weeks before results,

how long before the bleeding stops and the pain when you urinate ?

  • Hi . Good to know you have had your TURBT op. Many of these procedures have been put on hold for others. The pain and bleeding depends on how severe the cut was. In most cases, the peeing razor blade feeling should gradually subside over the next week or so. It is important you drink plenty of water regularly during the day. This helps with the healing process and flushes the blood out helping to prevent any clots or infection. The waiting for results is always an anxious time. You should then be given a stage and grade which determines where you go from here. Something they don't always tell you, in about 10-14 days, the scab starts to break away from the wound and you may notice some clots or more blood. This is normal, but can be worrying if you are not expecting it. Again, plenty of water. Feet up and take it easy for a few days. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

Thank you for your kind reply,

I live on my own so I’m very grateful for your knowledge, I know it’s best to rest , I was told not to do anything to strenuous for 10 days

I also had chemo poured into the bladder , how long do I put bleach in the toilet after urinating ,

    thank you for your kindness.

  • Hi Steve. It is recommended to take precautions for up to 6 hours after treatment, but it would not do any harm to extend it a bit longer. Clean up any drips with bleach and if you get any urine on your skin, wash with soap and water. It must be difficult being on your own, so if you need a chat, there will usually be someone here to offer support. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hi Strummer33,Hopefully you should be feeling more comfortable in the next few days.I used to find a hot water bottle helped with the pain.Plenty of fluids will help to flush things through. It’s usual to pass bits and blood soon after this procedure but that should clear up quickly.I tried to avoid any heavy lifting, stretching or bending vigorously for the first month to 6 weeks. This was to prevent excessive bleeding as this can happen rarely some weeks after a turbt. We have all experienced Turbt’s here so can answer any questions/worries you may have.I haven’t had chemo but I’m sure someone will know the answer to your bleach question.Take care, love Jane xx

  • Rily is a community champion and has extensive knowledge along with others on this site. Rily’s advice is sound. I have been in the same situation myself. Plenty of rest, no strenuous movements. Drink plenty of water to flush through bladder. Good luck, stay well.

Hi rily , thank you , I am struggling on my own , woke up in pain, there is still blood in my urine , I have been spraying bleach in the toilet after I have urinated ,

I appreciate your kind words ,

    stay well and safe

  • Hi Steve,Sorry that you are in pain. Are you taking regular painkillers ? It should get easier over time. The first couple of days are usually the worst. It’s not easy being on your own either,I know that from my Turbt last year.I hope you feel better soon.Take care, love Jane xx

  • Hi Strummer33, I live on my own too and so can empathise with you. It is a scary time but you will be fine in a few days. The blood lasted about 10 days with me and did get bits of who knows what out of the bladder too.

Pain wise I took Co Dydromel, but the constipation that followed was worse than the pain so I stopped it.

At two weeks I got another load of blood for a week and some clots came out, did worry about that but its fairly normal I was told. After that all was well.  Just relax if you can, often difficult immediately after the op, and try and get some nice meals or snacks .

    take care

    John.
