Hi All. How is everyone doing? Anyone stuck indoors? Remember, this is a support group, and things don't always need to be medical. There is usually someone here if you just want a chat, a moan, or any stories. My wife has been stocking up on paint, so guess what I will be doing in the near future. Best wishes.
Hello Jane, this clearing lark takes forever. Having been there I know exactly what you are experiencing. It doesn't help when you don't feel particularly well either. I found it got on top of me at times, we were under pressure to sell mum's bungalow to stop having to pay utility bills as well as the council tax which wasn't sustainable. Of course I wasn't alone, my wife and my brother and sister-in-law spent a lot of their time clearing what seemed never ending stuff. You will get there in the end so chin up.
Take care Chris
Thanks Chris,I know I will get there eventually. It’s taking so long because I’m on my own.I had to go through mum’s papers carefully as some of the research is important.I have almost finished filing the important stuff.Once that is completed I can contact the archivist. Some documents have to be returned to the record office as they were loaned for mum to work on.She wrote an entry in the Dictionary of National Biography. At least I have made decisions on what to keep/go.My sister would want to keep everything. She and John have a tendency to hoard.Looking around the house I can see how much work needs doing.I’d better get back to work.F1 was dramatic with the accident,John is a huge fan of motor racing so he kept me updated.Love Jane x
Yes of course you have to sift through everything which is what takes the time. I too am a bit of a hoarder so had big decisions on what I kept and what I threw. My wife isn't of the same persuasion so she had not so many qualms about ditching certain things. Of course we then have to find house room for it which to be honest is a running sore between her and me.
I'm not a huge fan of F1 as I find it can be quite tedious but people will say the same of football which I do enjoy. Each to their own.
Chris
The amount of clutter was the only thing that Mum and I argued about. She bought prints and and paintings to sell and never did. When my father was alive our bungalow was clutter free.I think mum started buying things after he died to fill the void he left. She got even worse after her second husband left.John has been buying more since his dad died.I can understand how it happens.I don’t wish to be completely minimalist but I don’t want to be surrounded by stuff either.I hope to get the balance right when I move.Jane x
I totally sympathise with you, you can have far too much. My mother always loved retail therapy so hence the amounts. She got worse once my father died. Whenever we took her out she couldn't resist buying useless rubbish, we really had to control her urges. It's funny as you get older I really question whether I actually need it and that includes clothes so perhaps I have learnt something.
Chris
The medical equipment has just left so that can be crossed off to do list. It’s suprising how happy I feel when a small task gets completed.
I know what you mean. Any movement in the right direction does feel an achievement. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for the encouragement,it really helps.
Jane you're very welcome. We all get down at times and not necessarily because of our conditions. It never hurts to share our thoughts and problems, we are lucky to be able to do this here, it's good to have others that can identify with our troubles.
