Women with bladder cancer

I would love to know of any other women with bladder cancer...having been diagnosed in February 2018 with a low grade carcinoma in situ, I am waiting for a 2nd follow up cystoscopy.  This has been worrying me as even though I have been told that there is only a small chance of recurrence, who really knows?!

I thank the people who replied to my post in February about anxiety in a different forum, but the problem I have found is that there are not so many women who have this.  It is strange, having had breast cancer where you can actually feel and see things, the bladder can only be looked at with a cystoscopy and any aches and twitches can't be checked out.

Any other women?

Big thank you x

And when everything was going so well! At least you’ve got some antibiotics now so should clear up soon.

i think I will have to do a urine sample again, burning when weeing, more blood in urine and according to my dipstick quite a few abnormal results.

I’ll have to do battle tomorrow at the Docs!

    Take care

  • Hope anti-b's kick in quick Blanket. It is incredibly wearing having to chase when systems could be more proactive. But praise be to you and to lucylaw for knowing what needed doing and getting it sorted yourselves. Hopefully you'll get a new nurse to build a connection with. Makes all the difference to have a regular supportive key professional on the case. My CNS has sorted out so much for me. Love to you both, hoping for warm sunshine and clear tests for all over Easter hols. xx

  • Thanks all Grin  I rang the surgery last night to see if they'd got the results of my urine sample, although I don't feel ill, but I just don't feel quite right.  You know how it is when you're not quite sure if you're imagining stuff Thinking  Plus I didn't want to be ill over the bank holz.  So I was quite surprised when the Dr called me today to say it was E. Coli!  So I've had to take another sample up, & he said that he wouldn't give me any more antibiotics in case the itching (I thought this was the recovery period that I usually get) is an allergy to the biotics.  After all that I have to wait until Tuesday now.  I did try & fight my corner but he said to go to the walk in centre if there were any problems.  That's what they told me last time I had UTI, which was rather difficult as I could barely stand, now that was a bad one.   Ah well one can only wait & see.

Hope everyone's OK & has a great Easter, with plenty of eggs …. xxx

I am really sorry to hear about all the trouble you are having...no wonder you are feeling not right.  It is difficult isn't it sometimes to wonder whether we are imagining it, but usually I think we know and I wish your GP had been more helpful.  These Bank Holidays always seem to come at the wrong time and there is nothing worse than to see one looming up when you are not feeling good...

I will be thinking about you and hope things go in a better direction, rather than you having to go to the walk-in centre.  It sounds like you are being much braver than I would!

Look after yourself and I hope there may be someone around for you over the weekend

  • Thanks Mary!

I forgot to ask yesterday, where do you get those dipsticks from?  I've thought for ages now that I could do what you're doing, it'd save time wondering & waiting.  Also who gives you the antibiotics?  I've been asking them at the hospital to give me some spares for an emergency for years, but my Urology nurse always said to send in a sample to her first at the hospital, & not to just take the antiobiotics as I'll become immune, & that the Dr's give them out like Smarties.  But it's hard to get hold of her these days, hence me seeing the nurse at the Dr's, who's now left, she was a bit of a battle axe but she always saw me right.  I'd also mentioned to my Urologist after my last procedure that I usually always get a UTI.  He said that they put antibiotics in the anaesthetic, & that he'd recommend they give me more, not that it did any good.

Anyway I awoke at 4am with lots of blood in urine.  It always scares me as I rarely see any visible blood.  So I called 111, they called me back & have made me an appointment for the hospital at just after 9am.  Hopefully I'll be given some more antibiotics.

I cannot wait to give that Dr a piece of my mind on Tuesday!

Wishing you all the very best, & thanks for your continued support xxx

  • Morning Blanket,

So sorry to hear that you are having such a battle, as when you are poorly you really don't have the energy to fight!

Well done for getting a hospital appointment today, I hope they can help you xx

  • Aaaaw thanks so much Catcatcat x

Sometimes I think we just need to talk about it, I know there's a lot of people going through so much more so I feel a bit of a wuss.  But it's so good to get it off my chest.  I don't actually feel ill, just panic stricken due to the blood.

    Thanks, enjoy your day xxx

    Hi Blanket,

Sorry to hear what you’re going through. Sounds a bit like I was last week with all the blood in urine. I’ve submitted my second urine sample on Wednesday but of course over bank holiday no results back. I have my own dipsticks ( you can buy them on Amazon) and when I used one it looked like I had an infection ( all the usual symptoms) but when they tested it at the surgery apparently normal so it was sent off for analysis.

My doctor is very reluctant to give out antibiotics so I will have to wait. I phoned my Urology nurse and she said she was going to get me an appointment next week to see Urologist so we will see.  Never had all these problems before.

    E. coli sounds nasty, I do hope they can get you sorted out this morning, let us know how you get on.

    Hi Blanket

That is so awful for you when the GP could have helped you yesterday, but I hope the walk-in help you properly this morning.  Yes, dipsticks on Amazon and antibiotics from GP but I do a sample as well.  I am only at the beginning of all these potential uti problems and I am so reluctant to take anything because of bad reactions in the past, so I think she knows I won't just take them.  But we are all like that...sensible I mean!  Experts to do with our own bodies.

You are not a wuss.  Whatever anyone else is going through is irrelevant to your anxiety and illness and you are just as important.

    Thinking of you xx
