Hi All,
This is my first post.
My husband had his first TURBT procedure on 20th May, a small tumour was removed the results were on the 26th June no treatment needed just a follow up appointment in around 3 months, we were absolutely thrilled with these results, however 2 days later he started to feel unwell couldn’t stop going to the bathroom there was blood and clots coming out every time he went to the toilet, he contacted the urology team and was told to take a urine sample to the GP to test this is what he did the sample was sent away to be analysed and he was given antibiotics in case there was an infection, over the weekend things didn’t improve he didn’t get the results for another few days and when he did he was told the sample was clear, he contacted urology again and they made an appointment for the 15th July to have a cystoscopy this confirmed that another tumour could be seen it was removed on the 19th July and he was told it was a more aggressive tumour this time, he also had a CT and PAT scan the following week.
It will be a month on Friday since he had the tumour removed I spoke with the hospital earlier today to find out when we would know the outcome they said the results hadn’t been received back from pathology yet and would chase them up today and we should get an appointment soon I explained that we are going on a weeks holiday on the 23rd August and was hoping to know the results before we went.
I’m finding it really difficult at the moment waiting for the outcome as all I can think about is that it’s been a month and no treatment has started and the tumour could be once again regrowing more aggressively as the timeline between his first and second tumour was a matter of weeks which to me is very frightening.
I’m hoping by reaching out that I can find some comfort in talking with others who understand my feelings.
Hi mavis13 and welcome to the group although sorry to hear what your husband has been through following his first TURBT. Unfortunately we know these things can recur and we know how anxious the waiting for results can be. Path results are usually ready in about two weeks but we are seeing longer waits and then there is also the availability of consultants to discuss the findings with. Has your husband been allocated a CNS (cancer/clinical nurse specialist) ? These are always the best people to talk to for information I hope all goes well. Best wishes.
Hi, yes he does have a CNS, he has his appointment now which isn’t until 2nd September which is 6 weeks after he had his second procedure so very frustrating.
The other issue that he has is the need to frequently urinate about 4 times an hour in the morning but it does improve as the day goes on, night time he gets up every 3 to 4 hours. He is taking the highest dose of medication but that dosent seem to be helping this time it was very effective after his first procedure but not this time
Is there anyone that has similar issues any help or advice would be appreciated.
He has cut right down on drinking tea and coffee and anything fizzy .
Thanks for your support.
