Hi All,
Great to connect with everyone and sorry that you're all going through this too. I'm 35 and have recently had TURBT to remove a small 0.5cm grade 2 Ta tumour, which as of now doesn't require any further treatment other than the 3m cystoscopy to recheck. I was keen to get an understanding of how likely it is that it will recur and stories from others who have been in similar situations and what happened next. I'd imagine most people posting will likely have had a harder and continued journey with bladder cancer, but any guidance or information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Wishing you all the best,
James
There is no right answer I'm afraid.
I had my TURBT in 2024 in July. No recurrences until Jan 25 where I had a very small recurrence in my anterior urethra, and just at this most recent check up had several small ones removed and a large one one of them was in my prostate this time.
That's how it's gone for me currently.
Bearing in mind I had a check in Jan which found a small recurrence and then 5 months later several recurrences.
So there really isn't much anyone can do to allay your fears of recurrences, but many people have clear Flexi checks and don't have recurrences as well.
Many people also go on to get the all clear in time too.
Sorry I know it doesn't seem helpful and I'm sure there are statistics on recurrence rates but I don't really see much point in using statistics if I'm honest.

Much love and hope to everyone past future and present.
I also hate autocorrect and hope people can make sense out of my posts when it changes half the words I type.
Thank you Simon and sorry to hear you've had recurrences. Have you just had continued TURBTs then, or have you had to have longer courses of chemo or BCG now? Also, what was your initial diagnosis, if you don't mind me asking?
Many thanks for sharing and all the best with your treatment and recovery.
James
Hi James1066 . Just to echo Simon, it really is pot luck. BC is known for high recurrence rates but some people never have any. Because of the high recurrence rate we are monitored closely and any future return should be caught early and be easier to deal with. Best wishes.
I had the first small recurrence washed away with water irrigation whilst I had a rigid cystoscope, I was having cystoscopies under GA as I can't handle the flexi's well.
Again similarly the latest rigid cystoscopy found these recurrences and were removed at the same time.
I have not had the mitomycin wash as yet and no other treatment than removal and checks ups so far.
Grade 2 (low) pTa 1cm tumour initially.
Then a very small recurrence as in tiny ISH then several small ones and a large one, what large actually means as yet I don't know and will have more answers after the histology report and follow up appointment on the 25th July.

Hi James
I was diagnosed with PTAG2 also in February 2024 Tumour removed March 2024 and a follow up TURBT for biopsy’s in June after this I was then to commence surveillance checks both of which so far have been fine as Rily and Simon have both said unfortunately there is a good chance of recurrence the only thing I will say is keep a very close on yourself best of luck with your first check up Cystocopy

Hi James,
Welcome to this forum.
Good to hear you've had your tumor removed and it was low grade.
It's difficult to say about reoccurrence of course.
Mine was high grade (G3 tpa) , about 3cm but was non muscle invasive.
I had my 2nd TURBT in February 2023 and was put on BCG.
Not wishing to tempt fate, I've had no reoccurrence and my 3 Monthly checks go to 6 Monthly after my next one in August. Then annually after the following year.
Wishing you all the best.
Trevor
