Met with my consultant yesterday and Im delighted that he agreed with me RC is my best option. Im finding it bizarre and really odd that Im so happy to be facing major surgery, but thats so much better than being scared of it. I see light at the end of my tunnel after 27 years.

  • Hi 4halves

I am glad that you are happy going forward . There are many on the forum who have had a RC. the consultants will go through everything with you on the operation and recovery. You will normally spend around 10 days in hospital and then rest at home. You will be shown how to look after your stoma and bag changing. Iam 14 weeks post op and now fully back on my feet and returning to work next week. However,  remember we are all different and recovery periods vary. Iam glad to have gone down the route of RC although I had no choice. When you read on this forum what other people are going through with BCG'S etc a RC seems at times so simple. I hope it all goes well for you and we will be here to answer any of your questions.

    Best wishes

  • I just read your profile. That is a lot to go through with cancer over such a long period. It will be a relief to be rid of your bladder.Best wishes Jane

  • Many thanks for your reply. I have no fear about this at all which would not be true if I had the prospect of BCG and more camera checks forever and a day to look forward to. I know I have made the best and right choice

  • I also found it bizarre that I was looking on my RC as a new project & interesting challenge, to be a 'star' neo patient. Not surprised that you are looking forward to it after all you've been through. Hope all goes smoothly for you.

  • You will have the support of all of us here especially those who have had a cystectomy.Recovery can be a bit up and down but you should get stronger and less fatigued over time.Best wishes Jane
