Hello everybody!
I'm about to start my induction course of BCG next week and obviously we all get warned about having to bleach the toilet after using it due to it being a live vaccine.
Does anyone know how transmittable it is?
My daughter's are not vaccinated for TB and haven't had their BCGs for various reasons. I did ask my CNS and she said that the risk should be minimal if their up to date and I don't think she understood me that they've never had the vaccine.
I'm urging my girls to get to the doctor's and talk about getting it done (as they do these vaccines for a reason anyway) but I don't think they'll have it in time for the start of my treatment.
I'll have another chat with my nurse when I go for my first treatment anyway and I have previously asked my GP whilst having a routine check up but she had no idea.
I was wondering if anyone here could tell me?
Stay well everyone and take care!

Hi Kitty.cs . We know it is possible for others to be affected by coming in to contact with the BCG vaccine, but after being on here for many years, I can't remember coming across any cases of cross contamination. Best wishes.
Hi Kitty, I have read on the forum , that on bcg day , folk that have a second loo/bathroom, just use the same toilet only for voiding and dont let other family members use it till the 6 hours of bleaching etc is up, does that make sense.?I live in an old house and dont have that luxury, but lucky that my 2 are out all day so dont need it , so i can just crack on with voiding and bleaching and i just give it a good clean before they come home. my cns has been really accommodating and usually gives me early morning clinic to help with that-timing . I honestly dont know about cross contamination, but press your nurse for the answer if you are concerned that your children arent vaccinated. She should know the answer. Take care x
Much love Angela x
