Hi hiveminds,
I hope everyone is as well as can be.
I'm wondering if any of you could help. I have just started cycle 2 of GemCis. I am finding my hair to be falling out considerably. I was under the impression that it would thin but this seems more than that. Has anyone else experienced excessive hair loss, and would you suggest talking to someone about it or just going with the flow?
It's not something I had really considered so I'm now wondering what I will be like if I end up at cycle 6..
Thanks for any input it really is appreciated.
Living up to my name this week!

Hi Nananaps . Sorry to hear of your hair loss. Unlike other chemo drugs, Gem/Cis is not the regimen where hair loss is guaranteed. We do see people here whose hair has thinned during treatment, but we very rarely hear of complete hair loss in this group. Always best to talk to your chemo nurse for advice. Hopefully it doesn't get too bad for you. I hope it goes well. Best wishes.
Hi Rily
That's what I was lead to believe. I think as I have masses of fine hair it may just be thinning. Also the change in weather affects my hair. I am off for bloods tomorrow so may pop in to macmillan at the hospital.
I think I just like to be in control and this I wasn't ready for! Still plenty of hair in places you pay to get rid though!

Hi there
Yes I experienced hair thining after my first session especially at the sides but it wasn't coming out in clumps if you know what I mean. Chemotherapy will effect everyone differently some don't experience any hair issues. It never bothered me in the slightest. To me it was only hair and in the grand scheme of things it was insignificant. It will always grow back.
Best wishes
Mark
Hello Nananaps, I had no hair loss following my chemotherapy and radiotherapy except for a little body hair loss. My SIL lost most of her hair following her battle with pancreatic cancer. She even bought a wig. Now 18 months later her hair is back to normal, thicker even. Have a word with your CNS or MacMillan. Good luck Garviv

Hi Mark
You are right, I think I was in shock as I hadn't expected the amount that did shed. Getting an infection and ending up in A & E put pay to the hair worries!
All good now, just an extra week off to get rid of the annoying infection, hopefully bloods will be good tomorrow and I can continue on Tuesday.
