Terrified

I'm female aged 59. I've had right sided back and groin pain for 3 years along with bladder urgency and weakness. I saw bladder community nurses first who referred me to urology but somehow the referral got messed up and just saw the Dr last week.

Prior to urology, my gp sent me to get the back + groin pain checked out. Had a physical exam and abdominal CT scan, which I've been told is normal.

So, I was feeling positive as the normal CT scan was just a fortnight ago. Over the last 10 days, I've experienced pain in the middle (in a straight line) of my tummy, just above the bikini line area. I put that down to something I may have ate.

I was surprised when the urologist said there were traces of blood in the sample and has put me on the waiting list for a cystoscopy.

Do they do that with just a trace of blood? I'm wondering if something did show on the CT scan, which they're not telling me.

I'm not terrified about anything sinister but about the cystoscopy. Do they numb you with an injection?

  • Hi I’ve had a few. A been ok . Try not to worry easy to say . They do numb you. Hope this helps

  • Hi  and welcome to the group. Blood in urine can be caused by various things but needs to be investigated. CT scans are inconclusive on the bladder and so a flexible cystoscopy is the best thing to see what is going on in the bladder. This is a fairly straightforward procedure and take as few minutes. They put in an anaesthetic gel first before the camera. Slightly uncomfortable but usually painless. You will be able to see for yourself on the screen and everything will be explained to you. Just be aware that if it does turn out to be BC, then it can be treated successfully and the earlier caught the better. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Thank you puts mind at rest

  • Thanks for replies. I discussed seeing blood myself about 2 month ago but saw the GP who did a dip test and said it was all ok. It's all kind of making sense now - that it needs getting done. I asked whether it was an injection because the consultant said it would be a jab.....
