Just got the results back from TURBT No. 3.
After TURBTs No. 1 and 2 and the induction course of BCG, I've still got high grade, non-invasive bladder cancer. Papillary tumor material removed this time was 2.5cm x 2.5cm x 1.5cm.
I wasn't floored; my symptoms had been telling something was amiss.
Next decision, obviously, will be to go forward conservatively and have radical cystectomy, or seek an alternative such as chemo, radiation or some combo thereof.
I'm hoping that something other than the RC is an option, but I know that might not be the case. I'm getting a follow-up with a urological oncologist in my current doctor's practice, and I'm also seeking a second opinion.
So, I suppose in 6 weeks or a bit more, I'll be going forward some treatment. Moving ahead with fingers crossed, hanging in there OK.
Hi mark, really sorry you had a recurrence. All the very best with whatever treatment options you decide on in the future. In the mean time rest up, drink plenty and be kind to yourself. You have been through a tough time and need lots of tlc . Take care x
Much love Angela x
Hi Mark, I'm so sorry to hear that BCG hasn't worked for you and I hope you can find a treatment plan that you are OK with.
Sending you a hug, love Ade xx
Thank you, my friends, for the kind words and encouragement.
I see the next specialist April 8 and will start to chart a course after that meeting.
Personally, I'd greatly prefer trying chemo &/or radiation over an immediate radical cystectomy but I understand that may not be possible ... much info to gather and process yet.
Working on wrapping my head around the idea of an RC, should that be deemed necessary.
I think I'm doing fine with the big picture to date.
Tremendously appreciate this forum and you all. Never knew I'd be so fond of a bunch of folk from the UK!
Hi MarkinUS,
Many of us have had the RC - in my case no option. In fact I'm like Podperson, wanted it all out PDQ and have never looked back.
I was watching to some woman on a webinar the other day who climbs mountains and another who runs marathons even after an RC - they looked extremely fit (in their 50s).
I'm older than that but am working to get back to my earlier fitness now. And whatever you choose, maintaining a strong core is key to recovery so they say. I've been working on that since my robotic RC in January 2023
All the best,
Latestart
