Well, back in December, I had the initial TURBT; I was told I'd get a follow-up in 3 to 4 weeks. I finally (after chasing) got an appointment on Jan. 30th to see the consultant. Then, on Jan 28th, I was called in for a CT scan.
When I saw the consultant, they explained I had T2 bladder cancer, but they were awaiting the results of the CT scan to see if it had spread; I should expect a phone call follow-up either that Friday or the following Monday. The usual course would be chemo, then an op. As I left with a bunch of paperwork, I had one form to fill in and then return to my "Health care professional" (who the heck is that???).
Silence... nothing. I tried phoning the following Wednesday to no avail. The following week, the NHS App told me I had another inpatient appointment on Feb 18th, but there were still no details, only 07:15 at the SLA.
I went into the hospital on Thursday last week to find out what was happening. The Urology folks could only say I have a telephone appointment showing for Feb. 19th! They suggested that I try the Surgical Admission Unit, but they couldn't help but suggest Surgical Admissions (who, according to admissions, only talk via the phone). When I finally spoke to someone, they confirmed the letter for the 18th was en route but didn't have the full details.
The letter arrived yesterday, but there are STILL no details. Now, since I live alone, my last two surgical procedures have led to overnight stays when I was given a General Anaesthetic, which needs planning around transport.
Previous experience with the Heart Failure team at Darent has been excellent, but this seems terrible.
This sounds unacceptable. I'd suggest that you contact the hospital’s PALS team and raise it as a concern. I know we're reluctant to complain because we're British, and we always think there's someone else more deserving etc. etc., but sometimes you have to stick up for yourself.
Many thanks. I was trying to figure out where to go next. I just found an email for the hospital's "Patient Advice and Liaison Service" on the hospital web site, so emailing them now.
If they actually use it and upload scans and stuff, none of mine have ever been uploaded to it.
I only got my CT scan results fork my local surgery when I went to docs for something and happened to mention I hadn't heard anything about my scan and she said oh I'll have a look and see if they are ok the system and they were so she told me what I needed to know.
