Hi all

It's ask the group again

I had to be admitted to hospital Sunday because I got water infection and I wasn't getting any urine into my bag . That resolved and I'm still on antibiotics but yesterday my pee just stopped coming through for 15 hours so off to A&E i went again waiting in waiting room for 3 hours and then suddenly a sharp pain and the bag fills to the top in a matter of 2 mins .had to run to the loo to empty and it filled again. I decided to go home as the blockage was sorted and it was another 5 hours wait to see a doctor.

I've called urology this morning but noones called back yet .my stoma looks like it's trying to heal over ??

Is that even a thing?

Any info or thoughts greatly recieved x

  • Hi podperson

That sounds a bit scary. I take it that it was working fine up until this point that is before the infection. I can only think that it's related to that. Hopefully urology gets back to you soon and let us know what they say.

  • Are you using a cera ring with your bag? I found that after a while the ring began to absorb a lot of the urine @ mucus  and was closing over the hole in the bag and not letting the stoma get the urine into the bag. As soon as I stopped using the ring and became even more careful to make sure the flange was sticking properly around the stoma it all resolved.

but if it's the hole in the skin around the stoma then I think you need to ring the surgical CNS again

  • Hi podperson

Wondered if the Urology department have got back to you; I didn’t have a complete stoppage as you describe, but did develop a stricture (blockage) in my left ureter approximately 3 months after my cystectomy. This is diagnosed via CT scanning - the stricture caused recurrent kidney infections & was solved by inserting a catheter tube / stent from said left kidney out into my stoma (through the left ureter).

Hopefully this won’t be the issue & the stoma was only blocked at exit temporarily.

    Best wishes
