My mum 81yrs was just diagnosed MIBC and awaiting options discussion. Chemo and RC look likely. She is very fit with no comorbidities.
i have been researching and see very good trial results for immunotherapy checkpoint inhibitors (keytruda/padcev etc). However whilst papers suggest optimal approach is to give immunotherapy alongside pre op chemo, this doesnt seem to be an nhs option right now: does anyone have experience (ie early treatment, not last resort in t4)
I had 3 months of nivolumab after neoadjuvant chemo then bladder removal. We hoped for 12 months but I got peripheral neuropathy so the oncologist stopped it. We're hoping it has had some protective effect despite that. They had only just approved it for bladder cancer when I started it almost 2 years ago. I just passed 2 years clear.
I recently saw a patient booklet about it. If they have to give steroids to damp it down and that can be bad for those like me with osteoporosis so it's not a panacea. The steroids worked but my jaw collapsed a bit and my dentist had to sort out my teeth - so far so good. I was 70 when I had it and still here.
Hope that helps
