Hello,

I was diagnosed with t3 g2 carcinoma a month ago and I am just about to start my first chemo tomorrow. 3-4 days ago I became incontinent, especially at night, during the day I can more or less control it. I called the macmillan nurse and she told me that it is not normal and could be caused by infection.
I am very upset and worried about it and I wonder if anybody else had similar problem and if it can affect the treatment?

  • Hello  . Sorry to hear you may have an infection just as you are about to start treatment. If it is an infection, it is likely they may delay things. I would take a sample with me tomorrow to get them to check it. What chemo are you having? Is it in to the bladder or the full intravenous job? Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hi Riley,

thank you for your reply. It is going to be 10 hours intravenous session to start with. Do you think such infections happening is very uncommon? The macmillan nurse sounded quite uncomfortable today …

  • Hi  . We do hear of infections quite often on here, so not uncommon. Usually dealt with antibiotics. Hopefully your treatment can go ahead, Just a few tips. As you say, a long day. Wear loose and comfortable clothes. Plenty of snacks and drinks. Something to keep you occupied. Phone charger. Log in to the free NHS WIFI. Get some good quality mouth wash and use regularly to help prevent mouth sores. Although on a drip all day, you are not being pumped full of drugs all that time. Most of the time it is just a saline drip to keep your kidneys healthy. I hope it all goes well. Keep us posted. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Thank you so much again, rily, for your good tips and for reassuring me. It really helps!

    best regards to everyone

  • Hi Irinacat,In the past I have had incontinence due to infection. It went once the infection was treated.Good luck with your treatment.Love Jane

  • Thank you very much for your support, Jane. Hope you are ok

  • Incontinence is certainly very upsetting, even if temporary. Do you have suitable pads to deal with it? Online specialist suppliers generally have better selection, cheaper than local shops. (I use ageuk incontinence website.) Hope it stops soon & that treatment goes well.

  • Thank you for the website tip, Teasswill. Will certainly look it up. They postpone my chemo for a week, unfortunately, but hope that with antibiotics prescribed the infection will go away and we can start again.

  • Keep swilling the Robinson's lemon Barley Water ! Recommended by my old GP, drunk properly diluted it will help ensure the infection clears.
