Thanks to the NHS my RC is now successfully done.the staff and treatment have been wonderful . Surgery lasted 6 hours. And 3 hours after that I was awake. It was done using the latest robotic machine. I am in no pain at the moment in ICU. Thanks to you all on this wonderful forum,  And special 1:1 support you know who you are.

Thanks again.

Leo

  • Great news Leo and so pleased to hear recovery is going well and being looked after.

Sane as others say slow and steady , can be frustrating but you will get back to full health soon and a normal life. Take care.

  • Day 3 post RC. Terrible cramps / wind. Not been for a jobbie yet. Any ideas?

  • Evening Leo, hot water bottle maybe….

  • Hi Leo, if I remember correctly they were giving me Movicol and telling me to drink lots of water. Maybe an orange or orange juice might help. If your menu is like mine there is very little roughage. Broccoli works for me but there never was anything like that available. Walking is supposed to help. And some say strong coffee. It's difficult because they tell you not to strain, of course.

I do remember it took me ages and then one morning - probably day 5 or 6 the dam broke. And I produced so much (I mean lots & lots) that it blocked the toilet. I can laugh now - in fact I'd forgotten about it, so thanks for cheering me up on a dreadfully grey day - but it was v embarrassing. We were in wards with 2 beds and a bathroom. The  nurse had to unblock it (salt works she said.)

So you are not alone and  hopefully things improve soon.

    All the best

  •   sounds like Turdzilla meets apocalypse now

  • Did they not give you something to help. I think I was on laxido for a week or so. I think about day 5 I managed to go. Ask your nurse for a prescription.

I remember it being some time a few weeks if not a month  to settle.

  • We need a "haha" button!

  • My hosp gave me a peppermint drink when I had wind around Day 5. Eventually realised it was bowels, managed a small bullet on Day 7. Can quickly change to urgency and looseness, so don't be too keen!

I've heard that chewing gum is helpful, as well as walking. Good luck!

  • Meant to say re Chewing gum if it's sugar free, the sweetners can cause wind. Like other diet type stuff

  • I was told to bring in sugar free chewing gum.I had it for the first couple of days then I got Ileus.I had an enema on day 9 with little effect.I was nil by mouth for most of the time.Came home with a low fibre diet sheet but it took a few months to get into a more regular bowel habit.
