Hi everyone this is my first post
my husband was diagnosed in December and had his Op early January, he’s had a large tumour removed and they said it was high grade but hadn’t spread to muscle.
He's still having treatment and suffering with it has terrible problems with going to the toilet, urgency etc.
This has also really affected his mental health he’s gone from doing over 20 thousand steps a day to not much at all.
we are thinking of applying for Pip but not sure we should ?
bit lost on what we should do.
Thanks for reading x
Hi Arabica
I would suggest if you are thinking of applying for PIP you give the support line a call and speak to one of the advisers there who can help in regards to the claim form. The support number is in my signature.
You maybe already are aware that PIP is not means tested and is tax free, and in order to qualify you need to have a long term condition or disability, have difficulty doing some tasks, and with mobility and expect this to last for at least 12 months from when it started.
The form you need to complete is very detailed with lots of questions which is why I suggest you call the support line for advice to guide you through the process. You need to put a lot of detail there and describe clearly how you are being affected by your condition in your daily life.
I do receive PIP myself, so I know how important it is to complete the form as well as you can-this is where advice from MacMillan could be very helpful for you.
It may be helpful for your husband to carry a toilet urgency card which MacMillan can provide you with, free of charge, for when you are out and about if you think this might be useful?

Hi Arabica and of course, sorry to hear what you are both going through. For help applying for PIP, ESA, and UC, there is no better resource than benefitsandwork.co.uk
On there you will find a free self test and other resources. For only £19.95 a year you can get access to their Members' Guides, which are updated every time the DWP change anything. They take you through the required mindset for the forms [which SarahH21 is quite right are long] and how to answer every single question. And the absolutely invaluable members' forum, where any question from 'where do I find..?' onwards is answered by trained volunteer moderators, and any forum members who wish to.
With the aid of the B&W Guides and forum I have just had DWP cave in and award me max PIP for my difficulties.
Best wishes,
Denby
Hi Arabica, thanks for confirming it’s BCG, many people are having that treatment on here and can help with their experience and knowledge.
I too have had quite a few side effects, including enduring frequency and urgency in passing urine, which has affected how I feel and tbh my mental health a bit too. BCG can be a bit brutal. You are not alone. Leo
I’m glad you can get some advice. I was able to qualify for a blue badge too when I qualified for PIP and that has made a huge difference to my life. Good luck with your application.

You have already had some great advice regarding PIP so apply, if you get nothing then you lose nothing. I don't know your circumstances but I do know that pip can make a huge difference.
