Hello, I'm very recently diagnosed at 33 and I'm terrified if I'm honest. I've been told I have to have TURBT followed by chemo. Can anyone tell me the recovery time it takes after having turbt please? I have two young boys to look after so I'm struggling with the unknown. Thank you x
Hello Lauraxox and welcome to the group although sorry you find yourself here. We know how the early days of uncertainty and not knowing can be worrying. A TURBT procedure is usually straightforward in the great scheme of things. Any offending cells will be scraped away and biopsies taken. The chemo (Mitomycin) is then administered in to the bladder and needs to be kept in for an hour or so in order to help kill off any remaining cells. You could be home the same day but prepare for an overnight in case you go down late in the day. You will need to rest for a couple of days but in most cases you could be up and about in a day or so. You just need to take things easy with no heavy lifting or anything too strenuous for a couple of weeks. You will then have to wait for a couple of weeks for the biopsy results which determine the next step. Try and stay away from Google as there is a lot of misinformation out there. Many of us have been through this so feel free to ask any questions. Bes wishes.
Hi Lauraxox,Welcome to our friendly group. It does feel scary at the beginning but taking it a step at a time will help. Most people feel much better once the TURBT is done and the results are back.Knowing what treatment you will be getting helps to focus your mind and eases the uncertainty.Keep off Google if you can and ask any questions here.We are all here to help and support you.Love Jane xx
Hi Lauraxox,
welcome to this lovely group of friendly people . You will find plenty of support , from people who understand how you are feeling. It is very frightening when you are diagnosed. All the what ifs and the unknowns can be overwhelming. I remember Rily reassuring me , this time last year , that once a treatment plan is in place I would begin to feel calmer. He was right of course. Its the inbetween time from diagnosis to plan that can be really anxious. You are among friends here, that will steady you through that time and after. Staying off google is good advice. Have you been given a specialist nurse as a point of contact ?
stay in touch, much love to you Angela
Much love Angela x
I second everything Rily said I was very anxious about TURBT and the folk on here put my mind at rest, they have all been through it and are very understanding. Try to stay away from google it frightened the life out of me. Take care of yourself I know its difficult with young children. Best of luck. Lynn x
Hi Laura
I had a TURBT 5 weeks ago today and didn’t use the forum before it wish I had of i was really worried about it but when I came round I thought to myself that wasn’t that bad I went back to work last week and only left it that long because I have a heavy job and didn’t want to take any chances of damaging something I was up and about after about 5 days at home no issues doing the normal stuff round the house etc I was just careful not to over do it
All the best with your procedure
