Hi everyone,
One for the gents, I'm 33 and was diagnosed with BC at the beginning of 2023, so far, I have had x3 TURBTS (I got the all clear on the last TURBT) and 9 rounds of BCG, I finished my maintenance course just over a month ago, and my next cystoscopy is due now. My employer has recently handed out kits to test for early signs of prostate cancer, they measure the PSA levels in the blood. My test came back positive last night with the result at 3-10ng/ml. I managed to get in with my GP this morning and he thinks this could be caused from the cystoscopies, they have contacted my consultant so they can advise on this.
Has anyone had any experiences like this before?
Thank you in advanced!
Ryan
Hello Ryan, sorry I don't very often visit this forum so only just saw your post. Raised PSA is a known side effect of BCG treatment in some men. My husband's PSA was raised and he actually had a very abnormal MRI scan and was referred for prostate biopsies which were normal. The consultant even told him that he thought he did have prostate cancer so it was a very worrying time. I did quite a bit of research at the time and raised PSA is not at all unusual - BCG often inflames the prostate. In my husband's case, it caused something called 'granulamatous prostatitis' which mimics the appearence of prostate cancer on MRI scan. I hope that this reassures you a little. Best Wishes.
