For the past couple of weeks I had been getting more and more intense abdominal pain and then this culminated in me starting to vomit. Went to A & E who admitted me and I've spent the last week in hospital, was discharged last night.
They reckon I have a partial blockage in the bowels. I'm going back to square one re the nutrition. Got told off by one of the consultants for having too high a fibre breakfast (weetabix) and not a low fibre one e.g. corn flakes. So hoping to get some more detailed dietary advice from the nurses.
Feeling totally washed out at the moment. Sleeping in hospital never the greatest prospect. When I could get to sleep I was having some weird dreams. I looked up antibiotics and apparently these can bring these on. They were very strange.
I'm in the position now of being back home, still waiting for a face to face appointment with the consultant. Had the operation in a different hospital to the one I've just come from so they have been talking to each other. Concerned now that I'm going to end up falling between "two stools". At least I found some more information about the operation although it doesn't sound that great. Just getting confused with it all now
Mike
Thanks Jane
Yes agree on the dietary information. I've got a call in with the nurses to see if the hospital produce anything, the more detailed the better. Have seen something on line from Norwich Hospital which I can also look at. I do have diverticular disease as well. Every time I have mentioned that I've always got the impression that this isn't a real issue. That has surprised me.
Fingers crossed re the liaison between the hospitals.
Mike
Hi Mike,I know my partner has had more problems with his diverticular issues than his ulcerative colitis. His last two hospital admissions were with an infection and partial blockage both diverticular.I would have thought that after having major surgery and Paralytic ileus that your diverticular disease might be causing problems in addition to the post op diet.Good luck with the consultants appointment.I hope you can catch up on some sleep and rest now.Best wishes Jane x
Good afternoon all. This is Mike's wife. I'm sorry to tell you that following a series of complications, Mike passed away on the 16th of October. He died peacefully at home with myself and our sons at his bedside.
Thank you for all the help and support you gave him during his short but extremely brave battle with bladder cancer. He was very grateful for all the advice and encouragement that he received.
My very best wishes to you all.
