I had a mildish (hives on head) reaction to a xray with contrast dye some 35 years ago. Doc told me then to ask for dearer dye next time.
I have hade no scans etc until bladder cancer diagnosis 3 years ago. My surgeon gets annoyed as the radiology guys won't risk the dye now as they say the second occasion is usually much worse than the first.
I fear I may be missing detail on my scans and wondered if its wise to not mention allergy next time and risk it. The radiology are well able to react to such a situation. It would be good to know if Im still allergic or not. My surgeon still requests contrast each time.
Anyone else had this problem and resolved it?
I have the same problem.I had a bad reaction over 35 years ago, enormous hives all over, bright red and itching.I haven’t had any contrast for urology scans though the radiographer says the dyes now are safer.I wouldn’t risk not mentioning an allergy.I turned up for a scan on a Sunday and the radiographer was on her own.She said I was the 3rd patient to have had an allergy that day.We all went without contrast as she said she would not have been able to manage an allergic reaction without help.Like you I worry that things may be missed.Best wishes Jane
