Left home at 10.40 am drove 70 miles for a flexi cystoscopy. With 1.15 pm appointment , gowned up and sample done . At 3.20 I was asked why I wasn’t dressed . I said I was waiting for a procedure. Told that it was cancelled due to infection and handed a prescription for antibiotics. I asked why I hadn’t been told but got no response. The discharge letter had been signed off at 2.04. Took the prescription to the chemist on site who said it wasn’t correctly filled out. I took it back to the ward for correction . Although this was done there was no offer of apology or regret. I paid the £4.40 parking fee and drove the 70 miles back home after picking up the prescription. Arrived home at 6.30. I am annoyed and frustrated at the attitude and approach of the staff . I can accept the cancellation because. of the infection but I cannot understand why I wasn’t informed in good time and with an element of regret.
Oh WallyB. What a disappointment, especially the attitude of staff. The hospitals I go to for flexis seem to move further away each time because of covid. Never had to gown up though. Just drop my pants. Best wishes.
Thanks rily, the problems with COVID have meant travelling to various locations. My frustration is that the discharge was signed off and I wasn’t told for an hour and twenty minutes that the procedure was cancelled. I wonder if there is any benefit in drawing this to the attention of the hospital and perhaps having a urine test with the local gp before going for the flexi.?
I don't blame you being ticked off. I had a similar experience for procedure I needed post op. Turned up twice, fasted, and didn't happened, so I complained big time, due to the lack of communication, which to me was the big issue. I also felt bad because I love the NHS. Anyway, it all turned out well in the end and I hope this just a one off for you, so frustrating especially when your psyched up.
I agree totally about the communication Ianw. This is the fourth time I’ve had cancellations but on the three previous occasions I was told immediately of the problem. This I can accept but to be left uninformed for 2 hours is bad practise. I have spoken to the urology department today to register my feelings.
