Tomorrow my TURBT

Tomorrow at 18.15 (that's a weird time for an op start...) my TURBT should start... Not really worried about the op per se. I am very worried obviously for what they will find during the op and with the path.

I have been told that I will have a chat after the op with the consultant who performed it who will tell me how the op went... I hope I will know more by then...

Thanks,

A very anxious Marco.

  • Hi Marco. Going down at that time, it sounds as if they are doing a bit of catch up by laying on extra surgeries. The surgeon will have a chat before the op, and then you probably won't see them until the next day. You will wake up with a catheter in and that stays in until your urine runs clear. I didn't have a problem with it. I was in for four days and wasn't really given much information, other than it went well. They won't be able to tell you about the grade as this is done in the path lab. I hope all goes well. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

    • Hi Marco,At my last Turbt I saw the nurse when I arrived, had my temperature taken and was weighed and measured. Then I had a brief chat with the urologist and signed the consent form. Then I met the anaesthetist shortly before going down to theatre. When I came round I had a catheter. The urologist came to see me later that afternoon. The catheter was removed early the following day and once I had passed urine 3 times I was allowed home.Rest up when you get home and drink plenty of fluids to keep the bladder flushed through.I found a hot water bottle helpful for pain, some people prefer wheat bags.Regular painkillers will help if you need them.I hope it goes well.Love and best wishes Jane xx
  • Thanks Rily. 4 days? I thought you go home the next day.

    Thanks for the info!

  • Thanks Jane,

I will let you all guys know how it went.

Your words and suggestions are helping a lot!

    Marco

  • Hi Marco. Yes, most people are out within 24 hours. In my case, they had to dig deep, so they had to keep me in. Two follow up TURBTs, I was out the same day with one and just an overnight with the other. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hi Marco,It helps the anxiety if you have some idea of what to expect when it’s the first Turbt.Sometimes they put in a drip to give you extra fluid.Love Jane xx
