Hi everyone

New to this section but unfortunately not new to cancer:

Aunt - 2016 - Lung spread to brain, found in final stages and died within 4 months

Mum - 2017 - Lung, spread to brain, skin and bones. Lots of chemo. Died within 18 months.

Gran - 2014 - spindle cell, entire roof of mouth removed and narrowly avoided loss of eye followed by a radiotherapy. Followed by bladder, 2018 operation then found it had recurred 6 months later. Yesterday we found out it’s in both of her lungs.

I’m here to find out your experiences on how long we have if I may? They had been hoping to remove her bladder but since the further scans have showed it in the lungs the plan is to attempt to reduce the size of the tumours to prolong life not cure. As my Gran lives in Scotland I am trying to work out what to do for the best in terms of visiting given the restrictions. I’m unable to be in all of the appointments as I was with my Mum. She has lost weight due to reduced appetite, her kidneys are also not functioning correctly but they think it’s due to trauma from the surgeries and treatment rather than more cancer.

Any experiences or thoughts would be so welcome? Thank you in advance x

  • Hi and a warm welcome to the group. Sorry to hear what your family has been through, and now your Gran. It must be difficult for you supporting her from afar. Bladder removal is a huge operation and if Gran is not suitable for it, they may offer alternative treatments. Lots of support here and hopefully someone will be along with experience of the lung complications. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.
