Has anyone else had a recurrence just after 3 months? I didn’t have chemo after my TURBT this time like in the past. Does this make any difference?

  • Hi . Sorry to hear you have had a recurrence so soon. Unfortunately it is not uncommon and we have seen it here often. Whether the chemo wash would have made any difference, we would not know. The positive side is that it has been found early and should be able to deal with. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hi Bex500, sorry you have a recurrence. I too had one 3 months after my first but the tumour was much smaller and done by diathermy, a much lighter op that TURBT. Best wishes.

  • Hi Rily, Thanks for your message. I was just surprised they don't always do the chemo wash I thought it was standard. Its a good job they keep an eye on things. Best wishes

  • Hi Foxbrush, Thanks for your message. Sorry to hear you've had the same thing. How are you doing now? Best wishes

I had my TURBT followed by 6*Mitomycin. Flexi 3 months later and the found red patches which turned out to be CIS, 6 months after that as a check before BCG they found some more tumours which they took out with diathermy.

I wouldn't say it was common to recur so quickly but it does happen quite often.

  • Hi Mugwump, Thanks for your message. Sorry to hear all that, sounds like you've be through it.

Not bad for only 2 years since first tumour discovered on ultrasound scan

  • Hi Bex500, doing well thanks, waiting another little op with diathermy. Its good that they catch the little blighters early.

    take care.

    Hi Bex500,

I had three reoccurrences within  a 10 month period. I had chemo after the first but not the two others. I queried this when I had my second TURBT and was told that as it didn’t work last time there was no point (!).
Ironically after the last reoccurrence I went on to have a six week course of mitomycin and have been clear now for 18 months.

I think sometimes it’s down to the size of the tumour and who is doing the TURBT.

    Best wishes Luce

  • Yes, I think chemo wash is at the discretion of the surgeon/local protocol. Given the propensity of BC to recur, not unlikely to get a recurrence so soon. Alas. it's the luck of the draw. Hope only a minor blip.
