I've just been told my cancer is grade 3/T3 and recommended bladder removal because after 4 tumour were removed a week ago some were through the first layer of the bladder lining which, as they were in the diverticulum, leaves just the second layer of lining before spreading outside my bladder. I am concerned that any delay could risk that occurring. Is it futile to be discussing other options.
Hi ad welcome to the group. There is usually a delay between your tumour removal and further treatment. You may have a CT scan to check nothing else is going on and give them a better picture. I had radiotherapy rather than RC. We have members here who have had bladder removal and I am sure will be along to share experiences. Best wishes.
Hi . I was muscle invasive and had a second TURBT as a mop up operation. I then had to wait about 3 months for my further treatment to start. A TURBT does slow things down and gives you time. Unfortunately we are now looking at another lockdown as hospitals fill up. Hopefully they learned some lessons from last time and may try to keep treatments up for cancer patients. Best wishes.
We're all anxious to get on with treatment ASAP when something is discovered like this. Normally I would say hospitals do act at the necessary speed - not always quite as urgent as we think. Depending on COVID, sadly there have been delays.
Plenty of us here have had bladder emoval, so can answer any queries you have about that. Good wishes.
Thanks Teasswill. I've a consultant surgeons telephone call booked for Tuesday to discuss 'options,' I feel there is only one in reality. Its nice to know if he doesn't answer any questions I have about the radical operation and post op issue, then I can ask them on this forum.
Before your telephone call, write down your questions, such as treatment options, timescales etc. Also try and take notes. Record the call if you can. It is easy to go blank at these things and forget everything. Best wishes.
Thanks, I do that already and it's great advice. If you read my bio you'll see I went through all this with prostate cancer 15 years ago. In fact the bladder diverticulum was probably caused during that time. I found the PC forum invaluable back then. By the way I've just changed my nickname to the one I used back then.
Hi notsosporty,
I had stage 2 grade 3 bladder cancer diagnosed in April this year and had a radical Cystectomy in June.
It was definitely the best decision for me as chemo was on the table as an option too but as you will probably have read, bladder cancer does have a tendency to come back.
I’m a bit younger than you (54) and surgeon was able to construct me a Neobladder which may or may not be feasible for you, and that is working really well for me so far.
However, I had already made the decision to have bladder removal regardless of having Neobladder or stoma and bag.
Everyone is different, but for me, giving myself the best chance of cure was the main factor in my decision making. I’d then live with whatever consequences that handed me.
If it helps you at all, I’ve posted my journey on this site under blogs. Search for newhawsaint.
all the best for Tuesday’s call.
