Hi my name is Sue.
When I was informed that I have AIN3 I breathed a sigh of relief. I decided that I was 'lucky' as things could have been far worse. I still do.
Having undergone a second session of laser ablation in May I was wondering if it is normal to be taking longer to heal this time around? Taking salt baths daily as directed. As my perineum is the affected site it is in an awkward area.
I just wanted to ask if other people have experienced this and is there anything else I could do to relieve local discomfort and promote healing of area?
Many thanks.
Hi Sue,
I don't have experience of laser treatment, as I'm currently undergoing chemoradiotherapy, but I have been given a steroid gel, plus a cooling gel I mix with lidocaine gel to ease the soreness and aid healing... might be worth a mention to your team to see if it's an option for you. I hope you are back to your old self soon!
Jenna xx
Hello Sue
A warm welcome to the forum. I am not familiar with the treatment for AIN3 and can't offer any advice, I am sorry. You must be really uncomfortable and it is a pity that the salt baths aren't helping. As Jenna has suggested I would go back to your team, it may well be that you need something stronger and more effective.
And just a suggestion - a Sitzbath, a portable plastic bidet (Amazon) which sits on your loo might be better and more convenient than having a complete salt bath daily. It is deep enough to submerge the area and if you needed to you could use it more than once a day.
Please let us know how you get on.

Thank you so much for your support. I must admit I anticipated chemoradiation would be the treatment route.
My consultant has been enjoying success with high resolution anoscopy and laser ablation of the perineal growth. My first procedure was in November 2024. I was expecting local tenderness but I healed well with little pain.
This second laser ablation has left the area swollen and raw. I struggle without a ring. I have no bleeding or obvious signs of infection. It feels like I've torn my bottom but originates from the laser site.
At the very least I appreciate that I don't have to feel alone. Thank you Jennaxx
What a lovely warm welcome! Some solid and useful advice. I think the Sitzbath sounds a good idea.
I feel better equipped to contact my team now.
Many thanks Irene xx
ps I'll keep you posted
