I had another 3 month checkup yesterday and the consultant said that the digital examination was all ok. Last year he told me I had some tiny cracks in the pelvis caused by the radiation, but after the latest MRI, I now have a fracture. This now explains the pain I've been experiencing the past few weeks, which I had put down to too much gardening. He's referring me to the orthopaedic dept.
Also on the latest scans, its shown something in my bladder. My consultant thinks its scarring caused by the radiation, so hes referring me to Urology.
I keep saying to myself if it was cancer again I would've been contacted fairly quickly after the scans. It's 7 weeks since I had them done, but the thought is still there.
Has this happened to anyone else?
Hi Namet ,
I’m so sorry you’ve got this worry hanging over you right now.
I don’t have any personal experience of this but I would be tempted to chase things up with urology just to give them a nudge & remind them that you’re waiting on this referral.
I hope you hear something very soon & it turns out to be nothing to worry about.
I’m sorry to hear of your fracture too, it must be painful. I recall my oncologist warning me that this can happen, this is what I was worrying about with having the hip & lower back pain that I have but a recent MRI has ruled this out thankfully.
Nicola
Hello Namet
I am sorry to hear about a fracture in your pelvis, no wonder you are in pain. I do hope your appointment with the orthopaedic department comes quickly and they can offer real relief; pain in the area is no joke and although I don't have a fracture I really struggle with tendinopathy.
And I would echo Nicola's advice to chase up the urology department; I don't think there is much in the area that gets through unscathed after radiotherapy and 'scar tissue' sounds a common reason for a question mark over a scan and I hope that this is the case for you.
Nevertheless this must be a worry for you, a cancer diagnosis can be be such an ongoing rollercoaster. Please let us know how you get on.
Big hug
Irene xx
