I’m starting chemoradiation with mitosin and capecitabin on 16 June. There’s a very important family event booked for 4 July is it likely I’ll be able to attend? It will involve a 3 hour drive beforehand (not by me I’ll be chauffeured) and an overnight hotel stay afterwards. I’ll do my utmost to get there I just wonder how others have felt at this stage 1 energy wise 2 skin condition 3 the dreaded faecal incontinence? Best wishes to you all it’s been helpful reading your experiences.
Hi.. good luck on starting your treatment.. it will be here before you know it..
I was ok until late week 4 and was able to manage the hour each way journeyeveryday to hospital without any pain when sitting.....so in that respect you should be fine..
On the special event.. i can only tell you what i did ...i stayed away from social events as your immune system then is very low ..But fingers crossed you may feel diffrent and be able to attend..

Hi Crocosmia ,
Firstly welcome to the MacMillan Online Community although I’m really sorry that you’re going through all of this at the moment.
I had my treatment back in 2018 & was ok until part way through week 4, I did have some fatigue throughout but managed that with early nights & a nana nap after my appointment each day. My skin held up pretty well right up until the end of my treatment but got really sore afterwards for a couple of weeks. It’s correct what Squak has said also, by the time of your event your immune system will have been compromised so that needs to be a consideration too.
Just remember that we’re all individuals & so are our reactions to the treatment, try & play it be ear would be my advice.

Hi
Good luck with your treatment. We all react and cope differently with it. With regards to your family event my main issue at that point was burnt skin, I didn't have incontinence during treatment, so could I have gone to an event yes would I have wanted to probably not. I think you will have to play it by ear and see how you are nearer the time. Squeak has made a good point about your lowered immune system though, you don't want to get sick during treatment. My bloods etc were checked every week and only dropped in the first lot of chemo and then they bounced straight back when I finished it, I was on a different chemo to yours though. Xx
Hello Crocosmia
Another welcome to the forum, and I am sorry that you have all this going on in the midst of treatment. If my memory serves me right my main symptoms showed from about the end of weeks three (which I know isn't much help to you). However the very real effects came in fourth and fifth week although I did suffer from diarrhoea during treatment (not incontinence). At best, you could take a Loperamide (and keep a supply handy). And prepare for lots of rest during your travel.
Wishing you all the luck in the world that this trip all takes place and you manage!
Irene xx
