Well I'm now in week three of treatment and I'm very over what feels like the constant need to empty my bowels.
Last week I tried taking a recommended laxative - but I only took one sachet before bed - I'm not sure if I should be taking more so instead of BMs every 40 mins (more frequent when I'm walking about/standing up) - thoughts?
I also decided to get my diet more bland, toast, rice, potatoes, pasta and chicken to see if that helps but probably too early to tell.
The constant need to pass BM is leaving me mentally and physically deflated.
I'll catch up with my radiotherapy consultant today and will ask them but would love to hear from those in or after treatment - what worked for you/what didn't work for you?
My poor butt!
I was also going 3-4 times a day and agree with you it is really exhausting! The imodium helped me and reduced the frequency to 1- 2 a day. It’s important not to get constipated as you know, so I took only 2 tabs max a day, and none if I didn’t open my bowels for a day. If that happened I took a stool softener. Again, only taking 2 sachets max a day.
Play it by ear! I could only eat bland food too… potatoes, bread, eggs, cheese, chicken and ice-cream!
Good luck!
Hi I felt like I needed to go all the time and would be on the loo for hours, but they told me it was due to the internal swelling tricking my brain, they said if I hadn't done anything in a couple of minutes I didn't really need to go. I also had bad wind pain at the beginning and they told me to cut veg specifically brocoli. My diet during treatment consisted of chicken and marmite with cheese on toast for the most part. Have a good Christmas. Xx
Ohhh that's so interesting - I am like how can I sleep throughout the night without needing to go - to during the day needing to go hourly.
Thanks for sharing Bungle1 - I've gone to a plain diet to see if that helps and one sachet f the laxative before bed.... Fingers crossed xx
