A frivolous question maybe...

Hello everyone

I was just wondering what type of underwear people started using as their treatment progresses? I have had 6 treatments and can feel a tingling and slight discomfort but am still able to wear 'normal' clothes and underwear. I don't think this will be the case in a few more sessions.

Can anyone recommend alternatives to conventional underwear that is comfy with tender nether regions. I would like to be prepared and don't want to cause unnecessary rubbing. I am also aware that there maybe some leakage as time goes on (so to speak).

Also, what did you wear over the top, baggy trousers, dresses?

Sorry if this is a tad frivolous but any advice/recommendations gratefully appreciated.

Hope you're all having a great day.

  • Hello Jo

Ah, the dreaded leakage!  I had diarrhoea all during treatment and wore Tena incontinence pants, I never actually 'needed' them but I can't say they were the most comfortable.  I had great delight in throwing out what was leftover once I had recovered.  Others wore big boxer pants so there was no chafing from the seams.

It was winter and I mostly wore dark loose tracksuit bottoms.  At home in bed I had incontinence sheets on the bed and wore nothing, that was best of all!

Not a frivolous question in the least, Jo.

  • Hi Jo

For underwear I wore the trunk type briefs made with a stretch material almost like lycra but not quite that stretchy. They don’t have seams to rub on your groin area and can hold a Tena type pad in place for leaks.

Over the top I just wore baggy shorts with an elastic waste band, no buttons or zips, except on one occasion when I went out between weeks 3 and 4 and I wore jeans, big mistake I wouldn’t recommend it.

  • Hi Jo

Not frivolous at all. I wore mens baggy boxers from Tesco (which unfortunately I'm still wearing) and stretchy yoga pants over the top. I used a sanitary towel when I started to get mucous until it got so bad that the hospital gave me nappies. Xx

  • Thanks everyone! Looks like baggy is the way to go, or at least seamless. Not looking forward to the tena liners or the nappies I have to admit but better to know the possibilities ahead of time.

Au revoir to the attractive underwear for the time being Slight smile

  • Hi Jo ( ),

I prepared by buying some loose fit harem type trousers but didn’t need them, I managed in my ordinary undies & jeans throughout my treatment, having said this my treatment was only 23 days opposed to the standard 28 & the week after I’d finished treatment my skin reaction really kicked off & I spent the next week in baggy PJ’s! Hopefully the good weather will last which will make dressing for treatment a little easier. If your usual undies cause any issues men’s cotton boxers seem to be a popular choice.
