Over the last couple of months I’ve developed pain or more of a dull ache in my left butt cheek! (tumour was left side also). Sometimes it’s felt like a muscle ache, sometimes bone pain & other times it’s been right behind my surgical/treatment site. I’m due an MRI scan on the 26th May with a follow-up oncology appointment on the 8th June as surveillance for the trial I’m in is coming to an end but the worry of this new pain was really beginning to get to me!
I’m almost 3 years out of treatment & know that my chances of recurrence now is pretty minimal but it doesn’t stop your mind wandering off to dark places. I began feeling that no way could I wait until June to get this checked out & having not had a physical examination since early March last year I needed the reassurance just to be able to get on with everyday life so I put in a call to my lovely oncologist who tagged me on the end of his clinic today. Thankfully he gave me a thorough examination & assured me all is still well on the NED front & it’s probably sciatica, I already have sciatica on the right side although the left side feels different & starts much lower down, he asked me lots of questions on where & when it hurts & this is what brought him to the conclusion & apparently he can check for this on my MRI.
I suppose the point of my post is to say never be afraid to make that call if you’re worried or uneasy about anything at all, even during these difficult times, if you feel concerned about something get it checked out, I couldn’t have worried on for another month & now feel at ease once again that recovery is going the way it should.
I hope you’re all doing well, I’m going to have a large G&T tonight & breath a huge sigh of relief.

HiNikki65 you’re absolutely right to not delay and get anything worrying checked out. Like you say, almost 3 years on there’s little chance of a recurrence but that doesn’t stop that nagging doubt does it. Not too long to wait until your MRI. Sounds like it is sciatica, I get that too on/off since treatment, both sides. Am on an off period thankfully atm. You enjoy that G&T ! Bev x
Hi Nikky65
Phew, what a relief for you!! So glad you managed to see someone. The mind plays terrible tricks when it starts to worry!!
I have similar pain to what you describe and was beginning to panic like mad but saw my consultant for my 3 month check last week and all is well!! Since then the pain does feel a bit better, so I'm sure sometimes my mind makes it worse, I suppose it's because I focus on it when I'm worrying!
Anyway really pleased all is well for you and just to say thank you for all you do for everyone on this group!! You are always such a fabulous support to everyone.

Hi Debh1,
Thank you so much for your kind words, they mean a lot.
I agree when you have a pain that’s worrying you you really do just focus on it so it seems it’s there all of the time! The ache on my left side is in a different position to the sciatica on my right side so I didn’t think it would be that, although it behaves the same in the fact that it’s there more when I’m sitting or in bed & is much less when I’m on the move. We’ll see what the MRI shows up at the end of the month.
I’m so pleased your check-up went well, my oncologist had a really good dig around yesterday & I’m a bit sore today but definitely worth getting it checked.
