I’m waiting for my biopsy results from Tuesday’s surgery. The surgeon believes it is 3 cm anal cancer. I haven’t gone back to work yet because I can’t stop obsessing and thinking the worst. Anyone else been there?
Yes! We've probably all been there...right where you are! My tumor was 7cm. Seems extremely large to me!!!!! I completed treatment in Feb 2020...just before pandemic hit. It's understandable to obsess and think the worst. Sometimes work can be a great distraction. Otherwise, here are some things that helped me when I felt panicky (and still do sometimes)...surf funny videos on the web, listen to mindfulness talks (Jon Kabat-Zinn), play games on your phone or computer, go for a walk, sip some tea with honey, reach out on here for support (I need support more now than when I was going through treatment), allow yourself a few minutes to worry/panic and then get on with your day. At night, it may help to listen to a "white noise" video on you tube. They are free and some run as long as 11 hours. They have sounds of waves, wind, rain and thunder, forest, etc. You can pick on you find soothing and listen to it all night right by your pillow. If/when I wake up anxious in the middle of the night, it soothes me back to sleep. Thinking of you! Be well, Lynn
