Second week is completed and Friday couldn't come soon enough. My mouth ulcers have become tolerable and the mouthwash has helped somewhat, but it seems as soon as one appears to heal another pops up, but the mouthwash does numb things for an hour or so. I've had quite a few burst and a mouthful of blood appears, then it seems to heal shut. The body is obviously expelling things and decided to do it this way I think.
Radiation has made itself felt during the latter part of the week, but I'm still on the right side of diarhoea by eating everything I don't normally eat, so basically everything naughty. Have to say the novelty of puddings and sweet things has already worn off as I don't have a sweet tooth and would normally be reaching for rye sourdough and a dish of olives, so stuffing down stodge seems completely alien. It does seem to be working though!!
So far the transport assistance has worked flawlessly has been very helpful.
One thing I didn't expect is that lying on the metal bed during radiation has sparked off the spinal spasm issue I've had for some years, but having let them know, they're extra helpful getting me on and off. I had three mini-episodes over the first 6 visit and the hard table was the trigger. Thankfully they've only been what I call 'mini-episodes'. But I've had several full-blown ones at other times and the pain is out of this world: in fact I pass out. I was scared if that happened I'd move during the treatment as I wouldn't be aware, but they reassured me that if I moved even a fraction, the machine would stop immediately. Phew.
The weekend has been wonderful and I've managed at least 7 hours good sleep Friday and Saturday night. Doesn't it make a difference? And a large bouquet of flowers just arrived from my daughter, so have had a special Sunday too.
Hope you are all coping.
What will Week 3 bring?
Having my PICC dressing replaced tomorrow - it's been itching and is rather red around the margins, so that will be a relief. + zapping.
Onwards & Upwards.
Take care everyone.

Hello Rainieday,
A huge well done on getting through week 2. It sounds that despite the challenges you have done well, considering how tough week one was.
The mouth ulcers sound really unpleasant and not easy to manage, not least as eating is also a challenge.
I remember so well how tastes change and I wasted a huge amount of favourite foods during treatment which I just couldn’t face.
The back issues sound difficult and hope that with the help of the treating team that these will be managed. It’s definitely a hard table and can imagine how uncomfortable for you. Yet another hurdle for you and I’m sorry that this has been added to the already challenging mix.
Im glad the transport is working and hopefully you can ask for this to be increased if needed. Also so good that you’ve managed some better sleep. It certainly helps. I’m sure the flowers were very welcome too.
All good wishes for tomorrow’s dressing change and for week 3. I hope in the best possible way that it’s uneventful.
Big hug to you xx
Afternoon Rainieday
Congratulations for getting through week 2, it's been challenging for you but you did it.
Great to hear your team are helping you with you with the back spasm. I also find it difficult to lie flat on hard surfaces and this was a challenge for the radiographers. One very strong guy would get my hips and give them a little drop onto the table, felt a bit like a wrestling match.
Enjoy those beautiful flowers and all the very best for week 3.
Ally xx
I am relieved that your mouth ulcers are slightly more tolerable, the pain that accompanies such a tiny sore is off the scale and in particular with some foods. But you seem to have cracked it with what you are eating, even though it isn't your normal fare.
Your back spasms sound just awful, I do hope that if you have to have any more they remain mini-episodes; my sister had neck spasms which completely knocked her out and she was ultimately prescribed diazepam alongside painkillers which actually worked. Would you be able to take some some sort of medication before your session that would help? I would definitely flag it up to your team or your oncologist, I know you are taking lots of medication already but this was one treatment course where I took everything on offer.
The restful weekend and the flowers on Mother's Day must have helped your mental well being too. And just remember, in three days you will be at the half-way mark, so keep counting off those days.
Big hug, we are all here willing you on.

Hi Rainieday ,
Great to hear you’re through week 2 already although I’m sorry that you’ve suffered with the mouth ulcers, they sound painful! I had a minor lower back injury some years ago that caused me spasms so I appreciate how awful & painful these can be, it’s good that your team have reassured you about should these spasms make you move during a session.
It’s amazing how valuable those weekends off treatment become isn’t it, I’m pleased you managed some good quality sleep & had a wonderful Mother’s Day.
I'm also pleased your arranged transport is running smoothly, it’s one less thing to worry about isn’t it?
I hope the dressing change offered you some relief today & your radiotherapy went well.
Good luck for week 3!!
Nicola
