Good Evening All,
Hope everyone is doing ok.
So my treatment starts a week tomorrow! Nervous but ready to get going and having looked through many posts on here I feel I’m as prepared as I can be. Sits bath, peri bottle, creams, antihistamines etc. I’m using the slow cooker and freezing extra batches too.
I spoke with CNS today and again she is thrilled that I have this forum and thinks it’s brilliant how informed I am regarding the things I’ve learned from here to help get me through the treatment.
I have my pre chemo assessment on Monday and I’m taking my daughter along. She’s 15. Both the hospital and her school think it’s a great idea and personally I just want her to feel as involved and as empowered about things as she can be.
I have transport sorted for the first day then the hospital transport kicks in after that so that pressure is off and I have a coccyx cushion for my journeys lol!
If there’s anything else anyone can think of please let me know!
Sending a big hug to all of you!

Hi Beckym16798147d you sound like you are well organised. I think its a brilliant idea taking your daughter i feel the more involved she is the less scarey it will be for her. I would start moisturising regularly now to get your skin as good as you can. Good luck with everything. Sending hugs. Xx
Hello Mags,
Hope your treatment goes well. It can be quite harsh on your body, but remember, it is extremely effective. You could have a chat with your oncologist about it if you need some properly qualified reassurance, rather than just me!
You will also be checked regularly after it has finished, so they monitor you quite carefully, which is reassuring.
Look after yourself during the chemoradiation - eat well and rest as much as you can. It will pass quickly, then you can start the process of recovery and healing.
All the best to you both, Mags125 and Beckym16798147d Stay in touch.xx
Ah yes I had thought about that then forgotten again .. I shall get cracking lol
Thsnk you! Xx
Hi Maggie
Yes that’s in my mind too but I’m going to just try take it one step at a time. Thinking of you too xx
Hello Beckym16798147d
You sound really well prepared, which is so positive. And I think it is such a positive thing that you have involved your daughter. We are all in great fear of the word 'cancer' and I think it does a disservice to younger family members to protect them by avoiding the word. First and foremost they need to realise that cancer is an illness like any other, and that many people live with cancer and, most importantly, recover from cancer. My grandsons all came to see me during treatment, piled into bed beside me, tried on my chemo caps and with great curiosity stroked my bald head and bear in mind they were all under nine! And they have totally accepted that life throws unpleasant things at us, cancer being one and they knew the family all supported me.
Cooking meals that you can just heat up is positive planning too. And get that calendar ready to mark off the days!
Good luck for Monday

Hey Beckym16798147d , you sound really well prepared & positive. I think we can all appreciate the way that you’re feeling approaching the start of your treatment, I for one felt exactly the same way nervous but also wanting to get things underway, the sooner it starts the sooner it’s done.
Wishing you the best for your chemo pre-assessment appointment on Monday & also for the start of your treatment in a weeks time.
Nicola
