Treatment schedule and the waiting!

Hi Surreygirl  - from another girl in Surrey! I can only advise on my timeline - my treatment started two weeks after the planning scan , it takes the clever radiologists time to plan the radiotherapy and then all systems go! The pharmacist is likely re your chemotgerapy, which is normally one mitomycin-c infusion and tablets of Capecitabine taken on the days you have "the zap"! I was treated at Royal Marsden, I have heard that Guildford is also v good. Could you call the Oncologist or their PA to get more of a timeline? It may well be you suddenly get your schedule of appointments in the next week or so? The wait can be super hard, l found it really tricky but as soon as you get started with treatment the anxiety lifts and it is all systems go! I would much rather have the schedule and know what the plan is even a rough idea. I read on this site and others that the waiting is a big cause of the anxiety. I think I will be more relaxed when I know something is happening.

Hello Surreygirl 

The waiting is so so stressful; do you have any telephone numbers for the department treating you, or have you been given a number for the specialist cancer nurse?  Hopefully they help in giving you a more definitive timeline.  I am sorry you are going through this as I know that you will feel so much more in control once treatment starts.

Please give them a ring, cancer departments are well used to being chased by super-anxious patients!

Hi Surreygirl I'm sorry I can't remember all the bits leading up to go day, all I can say i went to gp Feb 24 after a lot of messing about and misdiagnosis I got official ac diagnosis 26th July 24 and started treatment 30th september 24. Sending hugs. X

Is anyone else about to start combined chemo/radiotherapy?

Hi Surreygirl , the waiting game is absolutely the worst! & as you might have gathered from the replies you’ve already received timelines can vary from hospital to hospital & it’ll probably only be your treating team that can give you the best estimate. 

It'll be great if you manage to find a treatment buddy, I connected with a lovely lady here who started her treatment the exact same day as me & we messaged on a daily basis which along with advice from those that went before us on this forum was a huge support.
