So after much lurking during my diagnosis, I've thrown together a list of the things I bought to prepare for my chemotherapy and radiotherapy. This was a mix of suggestions from this forum, medical suggestions from Drs and Nurses and recommendations from Amazon once it worked out why I was buying certain items. It kept me busy to review items and made me realise I needed more things than I thought! I found it handy to keep track of when certain things were useful up until (mostly so I could reassure myself it wasn't a waste of money!).
My personal purchases and reviews are on sheet 1 (I am 33F), with a blank template on sheet 2 if you want to start keeping track of your journey. Maybe it will be useful to someone starting who likes to be organised, who knows. I just know it helped me and hopefuly it can be a useful tool to someone My prescription items were recommended for me by medical professionals, they might recommend you something different.
Oh my god I love this HonkingGoose but did I miss the number one item - the Sitz bath?
Also re water wipes - I hadn't realised that the big ones that we were getting weren't flushable - I now only use the smaller ones....
How many stars would you give you anal cancer treatment and recovery? I don't have any results yet but I'm for both!
Thanks for a post that made me smile!
I feel like i'm a minority in this but the sitz bath isn't really for me. Nothing has been too much to manage for me and maybe i'm lucky in that aspect! I didn't want to just add one because it's a more common thing people use if i'd not actually bought one and reviewed it.
Treatment is a sure 5 star, the staff are fantastic (especially the nurse who told me flaminal hydro can go in the fridge). I will have to get back to you on the recovery as I have 7 more days left!!
Good luck for the last week of treatment HonkingGoose and here's to healing quickly.
I had my doubts about the sitz bath but it was my saving grace... when I experienced excruciating poops...I knew that after they'd pass, I'd relax with my bits in the Sitz bath!
I think your spreadsheet will be a source of support for the many. Thanks for sharing.
Take care
Thanks for taking the time to put this together HonkingGoose , it’s a great idea. I did buy a sitz bath on the advice of others that had gone through this treatment before me but I think I only used it once, I did soak in an Epsom salt bath lots, I know others do find them invaluable though but like you it wasn’t for me.
Good luck with your final push through your treatment & wishing you a smooth & speedy recovery too.

I LOVE your spreadsheet, your comments about some of the items made me laugh out loud! The Instillagel ! The spreadsheet is hugely useful for people just starting treatment.
The only things not on your list which I found useful (apart from the Sitzbath) were incontinence sheets which I put on the bed as I had real urgency at the end of treatment, I never had any real accidents but changing the sheet daily was a lot easier than stripping the bed. They were very cheap and I didn't need them for long.
I am really pleased that you aren't suffering too much with side effects and hope it continues for for the next three weeks or so; please come back and let us know how you are.

Hi Badass, I just wanted to add that no wipes are flushable even if they say they are. My son in law works for a well known water company and much of their work involves clearing out these wipes that manufacturers say they are flushable which they will flush but don’t break down like toilet paper and cause many problems. Large or small.

Ahh I have just experience as to why the incontinence sheets are a must have towards the end of treatment ha! Any reccommendations for brands?
I don't have any recommendations because I am behind you in treatment (just finished week 1), but I did want to send you a big hug because you're almost done with treatment! I know you've still got that immediate aftermath period to go through, but still, you're getting very close to putting treatment behind you and moving on to the next stage in your life. Hang in there! Xx

Sorry you had to find out - I bought https://www.amazon.co.uk/Incontinence-Bed-Pads-Protectors-Self-Adhesive/dp/B0CNQ6ZPFD/
which had adhesive strips to stop the pad moving about. I only bought the one pack but they had decent reviews.
