I’m 3 days from finishing treatment . Now nausea has improved I’m managing better than I imagined I would . I was wondering if anyone had found something to help with the itching . I’ve taken anti histamines but they have very little effect .
im so excited for Weds to come as it will be the last day I have to take those chemo tablets. Just thinking of them makes me gag .
Hope you all have a good Sunday x
Hi Spencerbear ,
I did get several anti sickness meds . Thankfully the two I take now have improved the nausea and vomiting .
Thanks for your reply and advice Nicola .
I’ve swapped my barrier cream to Aveeno with oatmeal and a I’m taking the anti histamines . What I think is helping the most is Ibrufen tablets . Maybe the itching is an inflammatory response and the ibrufen is helping with this .
Last session tomorrow and although very sore I can almost taste the freedom .
Beet wishes x
Hi Irene ,
Last treatment day tomorrow and taking those pills , Thanks as always for your support .
Best wishes x
Hi Goldie,
Like you I was so excited to finish my treatment and stop swallowing those awful chemo tablets. My nausea finished almost immediately.
However I wasn’t prepared enough for the next 14 days when my skin really broke down instead of healing immediately as I had hoped. By day 4 I was sure it was going to be a quick healing process but by day 6 I was very disappointed and in a lot of pain.
I am explaining this so that you can be prepared and make sure you have Flaminal Forte cream and Polymem dressings both of which speed up the healing, I wish I had used them straight away. I have a drawer full of various creams all recommended but Flaminal Forte is the one to use and you can buy it and the dressings on Amazon. The dressings just stick to the cream and stop any rubbing and promote healing and don’t hurt when you remove them amazing stuff.
I am 14 days post treatment now and life is looking a lot brighter !
xx
Thanks Jet1414,
The only creams I have been given is Intrasite gel which is a barrier cream and used to promote wound healing , also Proctosedyl cream which has hydrocortisone and lignocaine in it for my anus .
when I saw Consultant and Radiotherapy Nurse last week they told me just to use this . I can feel my skin getting worse , so I think I’ll ask again about the creams and dressings you used .
I dreading it getting worse as it’s pretty sore and terribly itchy now . Even my buttock cheeks are getting sore now .
Thanks so much for letting me know ! I might just go ahead and order off Amazon for myself .
Best wishes x
Hi Goldie,
I wasn’t offered either of those creams so they may be great, different hospitals recommend different creams.
what ever cream you use I really recommend getting the dressings. If you buy the roll you can cut a strip and place it between your buttock cheeks right over all the sore bits and then everything stops rubbing. The blisters form but don’t burst due to rubbing so the healing is quicker. Hope this helps.
jane xx
I took high strength ibuprofen along with paracetamol as pain relief during treatment as I couldn’t take any opiate based pain relief such as morphine or codeine based meds as they caused me horrendous constipation, I can’t normally take ibuprofen as it makes me sick or at the very least I suffer awful heartburn but was prescribed lansoprazole & could stomach it well. The ibuprofen as well as being able to take mid way between paracetamol doses dealt with a lot of the inflammation caused by the radiotherapy so I agree with the positive effects of the ibuprofen.
I’m excited for you for tomorrow, be prepared to feel a little emotional tomorrow, as happy as I was to have completed treatment I had a few tears when I said goodbye to the lovely ladies that had taken such good care of me throughout.
Nicola
Hi I have ten sessions of radiotherapy to go. The skin around my vagina and bum is sooo itchy but sore aswell. I’m using Flaminal hydro cream and piriton tablets but I’m going to ask if I can get another cream for the intense itch. It’s awful, especially in the evenings. Of course any attempt to scratch is painful. I’m dreading things getting worse down there x
